Which of these cards is more powerful?

Featured Replies

I have a Nvidia 9800 GTX 512MB card in my system right now. I bot a new card a Nvidia GT220 1GB card, will I get improved performance with the GT220 or should I just stay with the 9800 GTX? Thnx for any advice.

This is a prime example of why newer does not always equal better. The 9800 GTX you have is several times faster than that GT 220.

Thanks TechguyMaxC, I suspected that but I wasn't sure. I bought the GT220 as a replacement card for my kids PC and thought if there was a chance it was faster than the GTX I would put it in my machine instead. Thanx for the help!!

This may hold for typical 3D applications like FS9 and FSX. But the GT220 (as well as the GT240 which I bought recently for myself) hasone small advantage over the 9800 and the GTX 265, GTX 275, GTX 285 etc. When it comes to movie playback with Pure Video HD based DXVA, the former features VP4, whereas the 9800 only supports the VP2 Video Processing Engine.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NVIDIA_PureVideohttp://nunnally.ahmygoddess.net/watching-h...hitecture-cuda/
