December 30, 200916 yr hello,Just got a quick question,In FSX when taxing do you use the rudder or the yoke to turn the plane? because i found out the other day that i can turn the plane while on the ground using my CH flight Yoke instead of using my CH rudder pedals. So which way do pilots use in real life? rudder or yoke to turn aircraft on the ground.
December 30, 200916 yr In real life you use the rudder pedals to steer on the ground, they move both the rudder and the front gear (on tri-gear aircraft), in general. The yoke only moves the ailerons, which are pretty useless on the ground. You probably have autorudder enabled, which means that the rudder pedals moves to keep the plane coordinated during turns. So when you turn the yoke, it also moves the rudder pedals, which is why you turn. Klas Member of AVSIM's Around the World Race Team
December 31, 200916 yr You should use ailerons when there is a crosswind to avoid flipping (not simulated well in FSX). Also some planes needs assymetric thrust (Beech Duke) or/and needs braking (L-39 Albatross) to turn. Bartłomiej Ender
December 31, 200916 yr Pilots operating the major airliners use what is called a tiller to steer on the ground. The tiller is a handle normally located on the cockpit's outer wall next to the pilot's seat. Not all commercial jets have a tiller.
