December 31, 200916 yr Here is the problem - have recently reinstalled FS9 - just wasn't using it for a while ... for some reason, and this NEVER has happened in ALL the years I have been using FS9 (also no new hardware or changes to hardware have been made) - the screen goes black - the monitor goes into a standby mode ... and of course the program just stops - have to reboot the system to being it (the system) back up.Video is a Radeon 9250Any ideas and/or solutions????Dale
December 31, 200916 yr The only thing to do that came immediately to mind was to reinstall DirectX and reinstall video drivers - I just downloaded and installed from Microsoft their DirectX updater that updates DirectX to reflect the latest updates (for end users)and from ATI a complete driver suite Alright I tried it again... and again the program crashed the system - interestingly, - perhaps coincidence - but there was an ATC transmission taking place at the time, think that was the case in the instances before. Going to try it again without any ATC
January 1, 201016 yr Turned off the ATC - well, actually if you never contact ground - you don't hear ANY transmissions - left traffic on (private and commercial) - just got into the flow ... completed a 30 minute flight with no issues ... Most probably will try a reinstall tomorrow - One thing I will double check is making sure all other Fs9 folders from the previous install are deleted and clean the registry - though though I had. But, it appears the issue might well be with the program's ATC
January 1, 201016 yr 'Self Help Forum' eh? (HeHe). Well, the ATC 'problem' might just be pointing to what is 'wrong' with your install and not the 'root' cause, per se. First of all, did you un-install the previous copy of FS9 thru Control Panel\Add & Remove Programs? That is vital. Next, did you do a format of HDrive? Do you have FS9 installed in C: drive, or other hard drive. There are FS9 files that go in C: drive and must remain there, but you need to remove the old ones so the new install can install fresh copies of them. Save or rename FS9.cfg so any adds (ie: Modules with sound.dll, etc) you made can be later copied over to new FS9.cfg. You COULD of done a 'repair' of FS9, but it's too late now. So might have to start over. You don't give any specs. Latest DX9c is easy one, it installs over old one. Video drivers need to be COMPLETELY un-installed before new ones are installed. ATI has a 'clean sweep' uninstaller-look for it in ATI folder. Change to VGA (on board video) in BIOS before you start the uninstall process. It will be a temp change to lower res (scrambles icons) but that can be later reset and rectified with 'right click' desktop then 'Settings' menu. Shouldn't be hard to re-do. Registry clean up is not necessary for FS9 program. Only for some addons, maybe. Good luck. Happy New Year.Chuck BNapamule
January 1, 201016 yr IIRC, FS9 has a known problem with the ATC system that will crash the sim if an ATC transmission occurs at the same time an ATIS is within range on the same freq. You might try using AFCAD to change the comm freq in use at the time to see if that's the problem.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
January 1, 201016 yr And one more thought...this is the time of year for the old seasonal CTD...I see you did a reinstall, so it's worth asking if you did the FS9.1 patch, and if you're using a no-CD hack, is it one made from the 9.1 patched fs9.exe? I've seen a number of folks reinstall FS9, and either forget to patch it with 9.1, or they use a no-CD hacked exe that was made from the original version. Both will reincarnate the dreaded seasonal CTD.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case

SO - if there is a problem hiding somewhere ...we will find out, as I have reinstalled flightsim and the patch ... and let's see if it will work ... If there is the same issue - then will unstall all and related files - reboot ... then when the ezscenery does its reinstall thing, will delete the folders it creates and THEN reinstall flightsim and patch ... and reboot ... this way when ezscenery reinstalls itself it should do it into the folder(s) I had just created.

Works so well, I would be terrified to tinker with it!Alex Reid
