Finding out about airline routes

Maybe I'm missing something... but it seems that people manage to get airline timetables, with equipment codes, somehow and make AI traffic flight plans, so I figure the information must be open source somewhere.How would one go about finding a comprehensive list of all the routes on which a particular airline flies a particular type of aircraft?For example, how would I find out all of the cities serviced by American Airlines' 737-800s?I know there's FlightAware, but it seems like they only give information about individual flights, and unless I'm missing something there, you can only sort by airline OR equipment code, and then only for flights that are currently flying or the history of one particular flight number.I also know that airlines publish downloadable timetables on their websites, but I tried that once and they don't necessarily give the equipment codes.Any tips on where to find this information would be appreciated... no particular use for it, I'm just curious.

Most of the time, it would appear to be based on the timetables. If you don't see an equipment, it's possible that it's either a codeshare flight or a different aircraft is used. For instance, back in November, United 646 was flown using a Boeing 757-200 one day. In December, it was flown by an Airbus A319.Actually, United 646 should have been an A319 for the November flight, but was switched to a 757 in September.
