Considering RAM upgrade (FSX)

Featured Replies

Hi All, Not sure if this is the right section to post this, but I was wondering if I could get a little insight regarding RAM upgrades and potential performance boosts. I have recently upgraded from Vista 32 to W7 64 and have seen a nice performance increase with FSX (DX10 to be specific). I have 3 GB ram now and know that W7 64 will recognize up to 8GB. I would like to increase the amount of RAM but not sure how much I should add. I'm guessing there is a law of diminishing returns in there somewhere, but not sure at what point. Will I even see any benefit beyond 3GB? I also use some heavy on FPS addons, REX/Active Sky, PMDG, various addon scenery. I normally put money into addons for FSX but if the benefits are worth it I may go with up to 8GB on my system. specs:q9300/8800gtoc/stock speedsAny insight would be much appreciated. Spud

Check out this article by NickN and read the information he provided about adding memory to your computer: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041. Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim

Thanks Jim, It looks like I'll only add 1 memory stick of 2GB as more shouldn't help much with my processor. I'll have to read more on the timings. Lots of other useful information there as well. Thanks for your time and the link.Spud

What are your three memory modules specs and sizes? What motherboard are you using?I would think that you should use 4GB.

I would be careful adding more ram. I know me and many other people have experienced many different types of problems adding more. Just make sure FSX is installed before you add it.Kevin
