Having a hard time with historical

Hey Jim I am struggling to either understand or get the historical function to work right. Here's what I am trying to do. I am trying to recreate a flight I did in real life earlier this month but am having a hard time getting the historical to match up with what I actually had. I did a flight from Rio SBGL to Sao Paulo SBGR on Jan 5th 2010 and landed at what was 10:30pm local time in Brasil or 6:30pm local time in Dallas Tx. I want the weather to be what it was at 10:30pm in Sao Paulo when I landed there. So what I did was go into the Historical menu and selected Jan 5th 18:30 local since where I was was 6:30pm local where my computer is, and hit apply. When the weather loads and everything gets set at the top of the ASA screen under all the option buttons it says Active Date and Time 1/5/2010 12:15 Local PC. That's where the confusion is because in the historical menu I selected that date but 18:30 local.Somewhere along the line I am not understanding what time I need to put to get the local time at SBGR to display the weather at 10:30PM. Do I need to actually put 22:30 local time for where I am flying in the sim? Thanks for any help you can give me to get this set up the way I want.Regards

Hi,What you need to do is convert things to GMT time and then download that appropriate file. Then you need to note that we time stamp the file upon archive which is +1 of the actual data. Example: 10Z data gets archived at 11Z and is time stamped as 11Z. So if you really wanted the 10Z data you would plug in 11Z into ASA. Sounds confusing, but it really isn't!!

Thanks Jim. I think I understand and will give it shot. I guess its not that hard as it is confusing, especially since your time is stamped one hour later than the one you actually want. I will give it a shot and see what happens. So for example, according to a time converter I used on line says:Rio de Janeiro (Brazil - Rio de Janeiro) Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 10:00:00 PM UTC-2 hours isUTC Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 00:00:00 So, if I want to load the historical weather for Tues Jan 5th at 10pm I will use 00:00:00z for Wed Jan 6th, but since that time would be stamped one hour late I really need to load weather for Wed Jan 6th at 01:00:00ZDid I get that right?

Well, i gave it a try a few times and couldn't quite get the weather results i was looking for. The cloud condidions and rain are about right but the wind direction is the wrong direction. In the end its ok, believe it or not I got it right twice out of the 10 to 15 times I tried since yesterday, but even when I saved the conditions when I got it the way I wanted, the next time I would load that file it would result in something different. As much time as I have fiddled with it since yesterday I think its best that I just move on and forget trying to get it and just use what ever the current weather is. In theory the historical seems like a cool idea, but having to convert the time to zulu, then add an hour for the stamp, etc. seems to not give me what I was looking for. Maybe when I load the file I saved I am not giving ASA enough time to display it properly in the map and report screen? Thanks for taking the time to help.RegardsBTW, if I had the time where I was which was 10:00 PM and I subtracted the 4 hour difference which would put me at 6:00 PM in Dallas, couldn't in theory I just load the weather using 18:00 local time for Jan 5th?

Well, I finally got it to work the way I wanted. Seems that after you fiddle with it a bit, it's best to close ASA all together and start over. Once I started over I load it using my local time that would correspond to the local time in Brasil. I replicated the flight that I did in real life and it was pretty close to the same, about as real and close as you will get for a computer simulation. Even funnier was the fact that since I loaded the same day in the sim and am using UT2, when I landed at the airport, not only did I have about the same weather but also a lot of the same AI were there.
