Distored panel sizes and blinking cursor problem

Featured Replies

Hello again sages of the sim-world! Very thankful for all the good advice so far. I have a newfangled issue I hope to get some help with. When I turn panels on/off with shift-[1-6] they appear giant and pixellated.I made a change to my config file to allow the screen to spread over 3 monitors (With radeon 5850 / eyefinity, so its one 'virtual monitor' to the computer), i assume thats part of the problem I have? The secondary problem is that once i pop up a panel and remove it, i get a blinking/twitchy/ghost cursor and my framerate drops to half. I cant see any other program running, but happens after I do that.edit to add : some of the panels make the screen weirdly cut off at 1/3 size or 2/3 size. see pictures uploaded.my panel mappings are in a pic ... its 1 (main panel),4 (IFR panel) and 6 (landing view) that produce the screens that are partially black. after going to one of these the twitchy cursor starts and framerate goes byebye. My only plugin / addon/ change is Active Sky Advanced (have not started the program though). Otherwise out-of-the-box FSX.I uploaded a few pics here - not sure if anyone can help out? I'm sure this is another n00b thing, but a bit at a loss.http://picasaweb.google.com/vinding/FSX?au...feat=directlinkAgain thanks for looking ;)Bonus points - I mainly want to use this for IFR practice. how do i add a panel with gauges etc? it doesnt seem to be pre-setup? edit: its probably just that it doesnt show right.. shift 4 is supposed to be that but is just black..sorry for bad pics, its late night flying here!

You might be able to fix 'When I turn panels on/off with shift-[1-6] they appear giant and pixellated' by resizing them in the panel.cfg file.Try making your MM size the same as your gauge size. This might eliminate the black areas. Here is a great tool for working with panels ... http://www.fspanelstudio.com/ Eyefinity is an unknown for me at this time.

ok thank you - i'll look for that. i'm a newbie - no clue how to work with panels.Seems weird that i get those giant black areas.. its almost like panels are supposed to be there but arent? And why would it start to do a tailspin on the framerate? :(Eyefinity is the Radeon / ATI / AMD technology for displaying multiple monitors as 1 to windows.. its kinda like the TH2G but built into the card.http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologie.../eyefinity.aspxCheers!

Some black panels are due to the gauge not showing/being found.

For triple-wide panel fixes, I have a set for the default aircraft up on the library that you can try out. Remember to back up your existing panel.cfg files before overwriting them, in case you encounter any problems.Search for fsx-triplewide-panels_defaultac.zip on the avsim library and give those a try. (There is a bug I know about in the default Baron, but I haven't updated the download package yet. Just edit the panel.cfg for that aircraft, and change any instances of '1280' with '1024' and that should fix it.Good luck, and I hope this helps. :)-George

Thanks!!! I'll give it a whirl. Glad to see its not just me having issues. Was wondering if Active Sky Advanced had anything to do with it, but I guess it just adds a panel, doesnt change anything.

George - thanks a trillion! All panels work now.Ahem.. but my ASA panel is gone.. i assume because panels.cfg was overwritten? so I somehow need to merge the old backup with the one you did I assume?or just reinstall ASA maybe?Love all the help, maybe one day i'll be clever enough to repay ;)

Flyingelk,I'm not sure if ASA overwrites panel.cfg files with its own copies, or if it just adds its own values to the existing .cfg(s). If you need to merge the two, keep a backup copy of the adjusted panels from me, then install ASA. If the old panel problem comes back, you'll need to merge the files. Simply, for each [windowxx] entry, you'll need the Window_Size entry from my file to get them to display. You can also use the Window_Pos entry to put the panel windows where you want them, again either using the values from my versions of the files, or you can use your own values if you want the window to open in a different location on screen. Last but not least, if your main vc screen 'shifts' upward when opening a panel window (typically the main panel), you should also include the alpha_blend=0.99 entry, which will prevent that from happening.I've also attached the panel.cfg file for the Beech Baron 58 here. Just rename it to panel.cfg and stick it in your Baron 58's Panel folder. You may want to do that before installing ASA.Good luck, and I hope this info helps. :)-George
