February 5, 201016 yr I noticed this morning when I was manually flying into Atlanta airport that I got an 'Approach Only' annunciation in the altitude window. I engaged the Approach/Land button and was flying the FD down to minimums but when I attempted to land, the auto-throttles did not dis-engage at 30 to 50 feet and I had to manually switch them off. Did the 'Approach Only' annunciation have an effect on this situation? In the manual, it states: "After dual-land, single land or approach only is displayed on the FMA, the GCT controls are disabled to protect the autoland. Exit from those modes is possible by use of the go-around button." What are the GCT controls, and why didn't the auto-throttles retard at 30-50 feet?Regards, jack noulet

February 9, 201016 yr Jack, to which manual are you referring? I couldn't find any reference to the abbreviation GCT in any of the PMDG manuals...At least in the ones I have...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
February 9, 201016 yr Something comes to mind:The MD11's ATS might be having problems with your throttle axis on the controller. Try it with the throttle on your controller closed... there may be some signal that is stopping the retard function... just a hunch based on a previous post some time back...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
February 9, 201016 yr I was looking at page 369/436 (PT.30.5) of the Flight Crew Operating Manual (FCOM). Procedures & Techniques- Approach & Landing.Regards, jack
February 10, 201016 yr Cheers...The abbreviation you were looking for is GCP...Thanks for telling me where to find it...GCP = Glareshield Control Panel... which is used to control the AFS or Automatic Flight System...Perhaps this helps...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
