March 6, 201016 yr This situation occurs often. A early morning flight today from KSLC to KMEM. Prior to departure I read the KMEM weather paying extra attention to the surface winds and altimeter. This assists in picking a landing runway for setting up a complete route. Upon arrival at KMEM the runway has changed from 36C to 9. The altimeter has gone from in the 80s' to the 20s'. Yet it has been essentiaslly clear sinceleaving the KSLC area. It is clear at KMEM. No big weather systems have passed thru KMEM in several days. So who is right. ASX or ATIS?Thank youMike Cubine Michael Cubine
March 6, 201016 yr Hi,Before departure are you refreshing the FS ATIS system using the Refresh AI icon in AS?
March 6, 201016 yr Author JSkornaWhere is the Refresh AI icon in ASX. I have not been refreshing FS ATIS. The only button with refresh that I could find was RefreshWx which I have done on several flights today. The last flight I have done isKTPA to ATL. Based upon ASX I set the fight up on 36L. The winds were shown as 030 at 4. ATIS indicated winds of 262 at 7 and 18R was the active runway. When I got to KATL I was planning on using 27R:KATL was in an east operation with 9L active. Tell me where the Refresh AI icon is and I will try that. Thank youMike Cubine Michael Cubine
March 7, 201016 yr Hi,Any wind speed under 6kts is considered calm in FS and the default runway system will be used.My mistake about the Refresh button. In FSX is the weather set to User Defined automatically when you are running ASX?
March 7, 201016 yr Author JimThese are the steps I use to start a flight. Click on ASX icon on desktop. It downloads and calculates various weather info. When it is done I select flight plan, ASX goes to briefing the screen and asks if I would like to install Graphics to which I answer yes. ASX installs graphics, changes some wind directions, etc and says its done. I then click on Launch FSX. When I first go to Free Flight in FSX it indicates the weather is fair. As soon as I select a plane the weather becomes user-defined. Once I have finished with location and time and clicked on fly now and the 2D Cockpit comes up there is a message that scrolls across the screen saying that ASX depiction is completed. Once the flight is over and I have ended it the weather is still shown as user-defined. While I was typing this I was also flying from to Tampa to Atlanta on another pc. The ASX briefing at KTPA indicated KATL was 300 at 6 and altimeter was 30.26. In KATL ATIS reported calm with an altimeter of 29.98. Based upon the info received in Tampa you would expect a westoperation in Atlanta; however it was east per ATIS. I did not set the alt. going into KATL but I pressed the key B which sets it automatically. It was set to 29.98 just what ATIS said it was not what ASX indicated.Thank youMike Cubine Michael Cubine
March 7, 201016 yr Hi Mike,A wind of 6 is calm, FS is going to use the default runways from it's coding, not the little 6kt wind direction. Go to a place where the winds are 10, 15, 20 kts and see what happens. This is not an ASX issue or problem. Now, the baros should match or nearly match. Do you have FSUIPC 4 installed? Is it registered or unregistered? Is that set to default settings and weather settings off?
March 8, 201016 yr Author JimFSUIPC 4 is installed, registered, and the weather is turned off. I don't know about the default values. I will check them when the current flight is complete.Consider this. I downloaded and installed ASE on Tuesday. When I clicked on the desktop icon ASE requested a key. I entered the ASX key which the program said was invalid. I tried this probably ten times until I gave up and sent an e-mail to support. You indicated ASE was only an upgrade option topeople who had ASA. I then removed the program using Control Panel>Programs and Features>Uninstall.I am getting some type of weather broadcast on 122.02 but the sound is so bad I don't know what it is.Thank youMike Cubine Michael Cubine
March 9, 201016 yr Author I have uninstaalled and reinstalled X Graphics and ASX.Just completed a flight from KDFW-KIAD. In Dallas, ASX breifing indicated winds were 16015G25, ATIS reports calm. In Washington, breifing says 28010G15, ATIS reports calm.Miike Cubine Michael Cubine
March 9, 201016 yr Author JimEverything besides ATIS seems to be ok.Since I reinstalled ASX and X Graphics all airports are reporting wind calm and sometimes a significant altimeter difference. Per ASX 4 out of the 6 airports had wind in 10-15 knot range. Also 2 airports had gusts of 20-25 knots but like I indicated ATIS reports calm.Thank you,Mike Cubine Michael Cubine
March 10, 201016 yr Author JimI do not know what version FSX is. Here's what I do know. FSX with Acceleration, SP1 and SP2.It is located at C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Microsoft Games. C contains 20-25 programs that came with the computer or I installed. The virus is Norton Internet Security. I would say that FSX on this PC is unstable at best. Probably 1 of 4 flights I cannnot complete because the PC lockups. Keys don't work, mouse does not work. The only thing to do its to turn the PC off and start again.Thank youMike Cubine Michael Cubine
March 14, 201016 yr Author JimIs there a solution to this problem?ThanksMichael Cubine Michael Cubine
March 16, 201016 yr Hi,I will always suggest that you get your FS install stable first and then we can return to this issue.
