Runway slowly disappears on approach

Featured Replies

Hi All, Hope you can help.I had UTX and Orbx PNW both live. I decided just for the heck of it to disable UTX. At that point no issues. I went ahead and set the Default scenery in the FTX Central App. The reason I did this was just to see how much impact I was really absorbing by using these 2 products etc. On approach to KSEA , the runway textures began to disappear as my altitude decreased, until no runway, nor lights were visible, just the grass. I have never dealt with a flattening issue but was a little confused because I was under the impression that the runway would just not appear from any altitude. So I have not a clue where to look or what to try. I thought I read something awhile back about this and it was an issue with ORBX but not sure. I sat myself on the runway and I am definately in a hole :( I have installed no other terrain products i.e. mesh etc and FSX is patched to SP2.RegardsBob G

Hello Bob,it's a known issue with the initial release of FTX PNW that switching to Default in the FTX Central application doesn't deactivate some airport elevation adjustment files in \Scenery\World\scenery. See http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=19369.0 A fix will be made available shortly. Apologies for the oversight on our part.Cheers, Holger

Hey Holger, thanks for the reply and I did find this thread.RegardsBob

To answer your general question, I think what happens is FS has to determine the "on top of/in front of" realtionship for scenery, based on the view camera position. Scenery that is on top/in front is drawn, and the other is not. when the angle of the view changes, it can make the computation more difficult to get correct, resulting in flickering. It can also be that different scenery is drawn at different distances, so as you get closer scenery pops up that is "on top of/in front of" previous scenery.scott s..

Well, I'm certainly happy this issue was brought up and there are plans for an update. It doesn't happen at all FTX airports so I wasn't too concerned but will be happy to see the fix.Best regards,Jim
