March 16, 201016 yr HEllo,I do not know if there is such service out there. I am wondering if there is a 3D map service (maybe as an online 3D map service) that you can download actual earth photos for putting them into FSX/FS9?Instead of VFR that is :) Artur Scholl
March 16, 201016 yr hi,use this insteadhttp://www.sim-savvy.com/in conjunction with thishttp://www.skyvector.com/ :( My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/
March 16, 201016 yr Skyvector is probably one of the most useful tools for simming. I really only fly the Duke, on short IFR hops, and I never fly without it running in the background. Blake Williams

For those who don't know it yet, do you a favor, just click on the Help video. If you are not impressed, give up flight simming :( My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/

I am impressed! I thought it was just a collection of maps, but wow, that looks great! I should learn how to read those maps though... Anyway, I will see if I can use it for my upcoming flights. Pity you can't save and load the flightplan.

I think you can even lay in a FS flight plan on top of the Google Map. I tried it and it worked well but you have to stay in windowed mode and that is a killer for me.Chuck H.

March 31, 201115 yr There is an application that enables you to run maps/charts and flight following software on a different monitor while still in full screen mode. It needs a little fiddling around but it works. You can get a link to this free utility on the Plan G website. I have no connection whatever with Plan G but it is an excellent and very promising, highly elegant application that is free/donation-ware. I have run that app successfully in full screen mode on a second monitor even though it is not designed this way. The FSX monitor changes its borders and also can get stuck in a strange mode, but it will work and you do not need windowed mode, so if your frame rates are better in fullscreen this is a good option.Regards,Rob Young Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page

March 31, 201115 yr While we're on this subject, does anyone know whether FS widgets actually has a large database of Approach plates (for Europe as well as the USA) that load as part of the software, or do you need a separate app/download to access approach charts? I have read the website blurb and guide but it doesn't make it absolutely clear if the charts are on the widgets database or you have to access these from other sources. Thanks for any advice.,Rob Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
April 1, 201115 yr Commercial Member Hi Rob,We developers hate reading manuals don't we? :smile:Page 7 of the EFBFSX Operators Manual PDF has the info you're after.Cheers, Fermin Fernandez FSWidgets Developer Melbourne, Australia (UTC+10)
April 1, 201115 yr Hi Rob,We developers hate reading manuals don't we? :smile:Page 7 of the EFBFSX Operators Manual PDF has the info you're after.Cheers,Hi Fermin,It looks like a great application. I did read the downloaded pdf before posting above and noticed the bit on page 7 about your database of charts, the understandable difficulty of installing the app with such a huge array of data, and your download facility. I just was curious to know whether you provide a database of European Approach Plates for the larger airports. Sorry not to have posted this on your forum but I am not (yet) a licensed customer. I know such plates can be obtained from mixed internet sources, but wanted to be clear that such charts can be index linked and easily found once downloaded to your chart folder within the application, and whether you had a suite of app charts for the primary Northern European hubs. All the best,Rob Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
April 1, 201115 yr Commercial Member No worries Rob, and you're right about the mixed sources, I would also add "moving" as they often change often. We do have a "Charts Galore" post in our forum but it was compiled a while ago. However to answer your question, once you add the PDF's as described in the Charts section of the manual they are always there and can be updated or added to as required, as you say they are just grouped as sub-folder under the main Charts folder. As for an approach plate product, we don't have one for the EU but the charts are out there, here's the UK AIS site (not sure if all approach plates are listed):http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=195&Itemid=281.htmlAnd it would be remiss of me not to mention the Aussie one :( :http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/publications/current/dap/AeroProcChartsTOC.htm Fermin Fernandez FSWidgets Developer Melbourne, Australia (UTC+10)
