March 22, 201016 yr I had a computer tech come to my house last week when I was having an issue networking Vista and XPNow when attempting to to install a new video card driver I am faced with a problem that did not exist before. After removing nVidia drivers from programs and rebooting Vista automatically installs a VGA driver. I used to get a message saying that new hardware was found, I then canceled and proceeded with the nVidia driver installation. As per a couple of forum posts I have read, I have gone into Control Panel\System\Advanced System Settings\Hardware\Windows Update Driver Settings and then selected "ask me each tine I connect a new device before checking for drivers." When I select ok I am not able to press "Apply" which remains greyed out.And I have also changed the settings in Services\Windows Driver Foundation to manual and Vista installs the VGA driver automatically.I spoke to the tech and he said that he wouldn't have changed anything that would have created this problem.I was thinking of shutting the computer down, removing the video card and rebooting so the onboard video is enabled then shut down and reinstall the video card. Do you think this may resolve the issue or is there something else I should do?Thanks, \Robert Hamlich/
March 23, 201016 yr What you describe is not a problem at all, merely default behavior. The VGA driver is installed so that you have high resolution display support while you install the full graphics card driver.

I just thought of something. I had visited the Asus site to find an update for my onboard sound driver and clicked on a link for a free scan to check for outdated drivers. I downloaded and installed DriverScanner and after it ran through and finished its process up popped a screen asking for payment before it could proceed.I promptly closed the UI and uninstalled the software, move forward a couple of days when I tried updating my video card driver and this is when I encountered the problem I described earlier. Now, I know that it may not actually be interfering with my computer but it is quite a coincidence that a problem which has not existed before suddenly appears.I am going to have close look at my computer in the morning and see if there are any remnants of it hiding on my hard drive. I wish I had been more careful. \Robert Hamlich/
