Gerrish Grey's Tree Library v3 and FS9

Featured Replies

Oh boy, I think I'm about to screw the pooch here.I have some sceneries for FS9 (KBTV for one) that require Gerrish grey's Trees v3 to be installed. No prob, but the installation instructions within the tree file are for FS2000 and FS2002!I looked for an update for FS9 and found none. Obviously they must be installable otherwise they would not be listed as being required in FS9 so some people have them installed. For instance, "Unzip the contents of the file SCENERY.ZIP into your main <fs####>\scenery folder."This would mean that the .bgl file is sitting outside all of the other file folders by itself (Asia, World, etc). Is this correct? And then where do all of the .bmp textures go?I feel kinda foolish sending him an e-mail about a file that was posted up some 8 years ago! Has anybody here succesfully installed them? I already pulled out the duplicate .bgl's and .bmp files and lost their locations. in my original backup FS9 it doesn't even find any such .bgl or .bmp's so i can't retrace from there. Thanks to ANYONE who can solve this one!

MrMertz,Quit kicking your pooch-it's not his fault (hehe). You only have 2 bgl's to worry about deleteing before you install Grey's 'trees v3'. They are: trees_0.bgl and trees_2.bgl. They would be in your MAIN texture folder. If there, then they were put there by 3rd party scenery installs. Delete them before installing Grey's tress. But it could be they are NOT there. Ha.The bgl (only ONE) you want/need to install is in the 'Scenery.zip'. That is only one file, and has all you need and YES it goes into the FS9 main 'Scenery' folder. No big thing to it. FS9 will FIND it anywhere you put it (well, in a 'Scenery' folder), as FS9 will LOOK in all Scenery folder(s). So it's NOT put in 'AddOn Scenery\Scenery' folder. See pic for location. Then the zip '2002.zip' has all the bmps (called a LIBRARY). They can be used by some 3rd party scenery developers to add trees to their scenery. They just need to 'call' on this LIBRARY (via the 'trees_0.bgl' you installed) and be done with it. So the contents of 2002.zip (*.bmp) goes into your MAIN texture folder (there is no 'Overwrite?' message as these trees don't replace any 'default' trees). Fire up FS9 and go ck out that scenery and you should have trees where there was white squares.I had Central Coast scenery, including Morro Bay, California, by Al Wheeler and had to figure it all out to get rid of those white squares. So Grey's Trees is not 'regular' scenery per se. It's a bgl, but it's for outsiders to use, not FS9. That is why it is 'ok' to be there as FS9 doesn't use it. Only those '3rd parties' do. OK? OK! So start over and follow this how-to and be happy. Cheers.CBNapamule
