  1. My laptop has an i7 4700MQ, 8 GB of G.Skil RAM, and a GTX 770M. Not only does FS9 run maxed out, so does FSX, though with lower fraps but equally smooth performance using Win7 64 bit.
  2. I just bought a Cyberpower Fangbook 17" lappy with an i7-4700MQ and GTX-770M gpu as well as 8gb G.skil RAM. Should I bother installing FS9 on the laptop? My desktop handles FSX with ease, but I'm interested in the portability a lappy provides. I'll be using a mouse and my old Saitek Av8tor joy stick. Thanks in advance for the advice, Bob
  3. I'm upgrading my 7+ yo AMD Athlon 64 3200+ rig. I've purchased an AMD Phenom II X4 970 and a Gigabyte GA-970a-D3. Now I'm looking at video cards. Since I'm on a tight budget, I've been considering an Asus GT430 with 1GB DDR3.I've always used nVidea, have always read they are best for FS. Just curious about a Radeon 5670 with 1GB DDR5 for about the same price.I'm very happy with FS9 and, while I have FSX, I doubt seriously if I'll do anything other than install on a separate drive as I've currently done.Thank you in advance for advice.Bob
  4. FS9 only. Seriously upgrading at this time, so FSX soon. You mean to say there are other games out there? Who woulda thunk.Bob
  5. Game Booster doesn't help (on my old pc, at least) with improved frame rates; it DOES help a great deal with my RAM, only 1 GB, allowing the completion of most flights without having to use Ram Booster. For my system, GB has proven to be the best, but results may be different for other systems. For giggles, however, I'm going to look at G Boost.Bob
  6. I've always updated Game Booster with no issues of any kind and, about 6 months ago, bought it. I run FS9 on an old PC (6+ years) and GB really makes a big difference for me, regardless of whether it's the freeware or payware.Bob
  7. I have an OLD system consisting of an AMD 3200, 1 GB RAM, and an nVidea 7600GS (I think). If I get any FPS above 12, I'm happy as my machine runs smoothly enough then. I have FPS capped at 31 and use nHancer. FS9 sliders are all maxed out. My video card just died. Since the best I can find is a 6200, I'll upgrade. I've decided on an Intel i5-750 (1156), 8 GB of Corsair RAM, and a Geforce GTX-460 video card. I don't know if FSX will run nicely (and I don't care), but FS9 will really shine over what I have now. As I understand it, the CPU is the most important consideration, followed, of course, by sufficient RAM. I'm most ineterested in keeping the cost under $500. Bob
  8. A search on FlightSim yields several 42 panels. I'm using one by Holmburg, but I've not found it by searching.Bob
  9. "There is nothing wrong with the aircraft's autopilot. There is something wrong with your expectations".A somewhat more tactful reply would not have ruffled feathers. You blew it and you should apologize; then you might just recoup the future sales you lost. Mine included.Bob
  10. I'm looking for SWA 737-7H4 'Illinois One', N918WN and 737-7H4 'Florida One', N945WN. For Eric Cantu's 737-700 or POSKY's 737-700 series. Also, SWA 737-3H4 'Lone Star One', N352SW for Eric's 737-300 series. I have everything else that's available, but I'm lacking these three.Any help, advice, directions are most welcome. Thanks in advance,Bob
  11. I have REX also and two things I've done is install Soft Horizons and also to make sure tablefog is set to 0 wihin the FS9 config. Of course I have set visibility at 40 miles within FS9, and I also use the lowest visibility setting within REX. There may be other things to do, but I've not tried them.Bob
  12. Bill,The air files are under FDE Packages, which are located with the model and panel packages (where you were when you downloaded the model file).Bob
  13. Under POSKY's downloads section, open the 777-200 section and click Model Packages. You'll see several LRF listings for FSX and FS9. You then download whatever model(s) you wish.Bob
  14. Have you checked at POSKY, yet?Bob
  15. Cheesy, indeed. I retired from ARTCC after 28 years and I've seen and been involved in my share of emergencies, including aircraft just disappearing from the scope. It was never like what was portrayed in the film. Controllers had other things on their mind than demonstrating their acting ability. Guess that's the way it always is in film, which is why I haven't been to a movie in 35 years.Bob
  16. We have a three-legged Pit Bull rescue that is the absolute joy in our lives. The Pit puppies shown have the same colors as ours which really caught my eye because we adopted our baby when she was 18 months so we never saw her a a puppy. Thanks for sharing this story. It made my day.Bob
  17. Take a look at Historic Jets Group, www.simviation.com/hjg/main.htm. They have excellent freeware aircraft from the 'golden age' of turbojets.Bob
  18. I use the payware C-172 1958 straight tail from SimFlight3D. IRL, I have more hours in 172s than any other light single and I'm quite impressed with the modeling, flight characteristics, and overall quality.Bob
  19. Retired Air Traffic Controller, ARTCC.Bob
  20. I thank you, too, napamule. I had an earlier version and wanted to update, bu the V3 has been sitting in my 'to do later' folder in the hopes someone would provide help. Thanks again,Bob
  21. I read somewhere that frames should be locked at 31 when using nHancer so that's what I've done for along time. I don't remember the reason for 31, but it made sense as my frames were locked at 35 anyway.Bob
  22. Never collided headon, but several times I've been overtaken while on final resulting in a collision.Bob
  23. Dave, I had to adjust the balance by changing the "wing_pos_apex_lon =" from -29.000 to -24.000. That's in the aircraft config under the [airplane_geometry] section. Bear in mind this changes the actual position of the wings, not always a good thing to do, but many times it's the only way to achieve any semblance of a proper weight and balance. Bob
  24. More years ago than I'll admit, I used to tune the ADF to local radio stations and listen to music that way.Bob
  25. I haven't found a large hangar inventory slows down performance, but it does slow down the loading of FS9. I created another hangar on a second drive and I keep there those aircraft I rarely or never fly. It's easy enough to move aircraft from one hangar to another so the setup works well for me.Bob
