I would never have assumed that Austin was financially struggling, he is the head of a very small team that makes a flightsim that has tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of users worldwide on 3 OS platforms, not to mention additional commercial users. I would have assumed his profit margins were insanely good.

It's the commercial applications that've made Austin wealthy. The sales to the entertainment market are a plus of course, but very tiny in proportion to gross income.The "common perception" to which I was referring is mostly in the context of the entertainment market's users, who often aren't even aware of the professional/commercial side of the business.
