Triple NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 980 graphics with 12GB
PingPong replied to asanal's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI think that PC is more suited to playing the latest FarCry on a 4k triple screen setup. Also, if you are running into 32 bit Ram limitations with your current setup(which honestly sounds really good for FSX), then you will run into them again $5000 later, after buying a new machine. Take a good look at your FSX setup(since you mentioned you fly the PMDG 777, switching to P3D is out). Look hard for things you can edit out of the scenery cfg, etc... maybe try that demo of that thread optimizing program. Good luck

The sheer beauty of X-Plane!
Great Shots! You know one of the greatest things about XPX is the portable, mobile install. i have had the same SSD with a working install of XPX for like 3 years, ever since XP-10 came out. It has followed me from computer to computer. No big multi-day reinstall proceedure.

First experience with 4K monitor
PingPong replied to vgbaron's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThe TV is bought has both DP and HDMI 2.0, it's just unfortunate that the graphics card is limited to DP. So I figured the display is somewhat future proof, the Titans, not so much. Still it is an amazing view, I haven't been flgiht simming as much lately, I am using mostly racing sims, and Assetto Corsa with a wide FOV (I have it at 3840 x 1440), and a ffb wheel is amazing. DX 11 graphics and 60 fps steady with bloom, crepuscular rays etc... really breath taking.

First experience with 4K monitor
PingPong replied to vgbaron's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI have not seen any, from my research, the banding artifacts were primarily with the larger 65" models, I have the (relatively) smaller 58".

First experience with 4K monitor
PingPong replied to vgbaron's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI am only driving the one monitor, since it takes up my whole field of vision. I actually wanted a Samsung curved display, but when I looked into it, i saw that if you want 60 fps refresh rate at 4k, it needed HDMI 2, which the nvidia cards do not support. Since display port is what the cards support now, I went with the Panasonic, as it was the only display port model available. This was in the summer, things may have changed since...

FlyTampa-Copenhagen Released
The price may reflect costlier resources to produce the airport. Orthoimaging, 3rd party modelling, trips to the field, etc... All(or none) of these may be folded into the price to cover cost outlays. "As I'm perfected entitled to do ... I'd love someone to explain to me why I should pay £6 more for a FlyTampa product for a moderate size airport." THEY are also perfectly entitiled to price their addon as they wish. Surely this is simple supply and demand, enough people will buy it or the price comes down. No additional explanation needed.

First experience with 4K monitor
PingPong replied to vgbaron's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI use a 58 inch Panasonic TV 4K TV as a display with Display Port, and I LOVE IT. I use two titans GPUS in SLI to drive it. There is a monitor mode that removes any and all post processing. Display port is the only format right now that can do 4K at 60fps, HDMI2 can as well, but the titan doesn't support it. The new 900 series Nvidia cards may be different. I think the OP is using too high an AA setting, more resolutions means you can probably turn down AA quite a bit.

P3D v2.3 vs. XPX 10.30b8: KSNA to KCNO
I am an XPX guy and even I think the ground in P3D looks miles better. I don't like the default XPX textures(which is why I make my own photoscenery). I never much cared for that MaxxFx plugin myself(his other work is very, very good), since it makes things look much less realistic. My problem with P3D is blurries, when I fly around it starts off great but then the textures start to blur out badly, not a problem with x-plane(which is why I made the switch in the first place).

RC1 is out
I am eargely awaiting the new Oculus plugin, since I got my hands on a DK2. I love XPX for helos and it the synergy of the DK2 + XPX + Dreamfoil helo + CZST Stuart, should be a grand and immersive experience. DCS and its Huey work well together with the rift, but the performance lags. I can get 60 fps locked in XPX and can probably tweak things to get 75, but DCS is a whole other animal, and I simply don't have time to learn how to tame it. Fundamentally though, I agree that this support was prioritized due to Austin's personal preference, and the resources could have been allocated to something that would benefit more simmers.

Oculus rift.
I can't seem to get 75fps in DCS, any suggestions as to settings. I have a 3770k @4.9ghz and SLI Titans, so I am a bit puzzled. I use it for the huey at the airport, and even when I decrease the sliders to low I get judder, when I fly away from the airport, it's nice and smooth, but I am more interested in airport operations. I get a very nice 300 - 500fps in Live for speed which works beautifully. I too am waiting on native XPX support, I can get 60 fps no problem in most settings, so I think 75 should be doable.

Photo+normal scenery
If you are responding to me, I can try to explain. Basically, in WED you can place Exclusion Zones for various scenery elements, such as autogen or roads, etc. From the WED manual: An overlay can contain “exclusion zones,” which are lat-lon rectangles that prevent elements of lower-priority tiles from being loaded. For example, if an overlay tile contained placements for custom buildings for Manhattan, the author would also create an exclusion zone around Manhattan that would prevent the default buildings (that ship with X-Plane) from appearing there. You can open the scenery in WED and look for any exclusion zones, they should show up on the list of scenery elements, and see if one of these zones is covering up the photoscenery. -- Please bear in mind, this is just a guess, and please always keep a backup of all the files you might tinker with. good luck.

Photo+normal scenery
The addon airport scenery itself may be excluding the underlying photoscenry textures, if this is the case, it may require some editing of the GCLP attributes in WED. But otherwise as stated there should be no problem combining the two.

SkyMaxxPro 2 - Cloud shadows!
That video sealed the deal for me, I will most definitely be buying this add-on. Between this, Oculus Rift support, and G2XPL photosceneries, X-plane will be just perfect.
