March 28, 201016 yr I just ordered an Gigabyte X58 UD7 motherboard and a i7980X processor its on its way, and I was just informed by gigabyte that in order for me to update the bios to support the i7980X I have to have install an older processor first, then do the update, What the hell am I going to do now. I don't have an older icore7.
March 28, 201016 yr Hi,A guy I know at work ordered the same UD7 and 980X, and gigabyte told him the same. He sent it back to them and they did it for him. Thanks
March 28, 201016 yr Author I just can't believe this is happening, they said the mobo supported the i7980X how can they assume that people just have an extra older i7 lying around the house.
March 28, 201016 yr Because you just ordered the UD7 I assume you are lucky and the bios version is F3 or newer. If this is the case your I7 980X will be working.I hope it for you.
March 28, 201016 yr Author Well I guess I'll never know, called tigerdirect this morning and cancelled the whole order. I will never deal with gigabyte again, they could have posted something this important on their website, instead they brush it off as no big deal, just grab on older i7 install it then do the bios update, ya because everyone just has an extra processor kicking around the house. Anyways Im going to wait for the ASUS Rampage 3 then reorder everything, hopefully the Rampage 3 will work right out of the box, will make sure this time. Anyways keep posting those vids crash, I will have to wait bit longer :(

Some of the perils of building your own system...Best regards,JimWell just research any mobo you buy Jim, pretty much all the mobo's right now are in the same boat as Gigabyte in regards to the i7 980X(I'm assuming), they say that they support it, but you may need that crucial bios update to get it to work with the i7980X.
March 29, 201016 yr The ASUS Rampage III is my next Mobo too. Rampage III will support i7 980X out of the box for sure! :(
