RXP GNS V2 and GTN database update
Just purchased 430 & 530 for XP 11. Is it only possible to update DB via active garmin subscription? As a student PPL Pilot I'm willing to buy it, but I have no real garmin device, therefore I cannot register one to buy subscription.

Installing Addons outside root v3 folder
Thanks for all the good explanations! I put all my sceneries (exp. ORBX) to separate folder's outside of P3D and point the corresponding cfg's to it. This is working like a charm. However I was unable to do the same thing with Aerosoft's A319-321. I can select the Airbuses but on loading P3D says it cannot find sound files. So I checked sound.cfg of for example the A319 and even tried to set a absolute path but nothing was working. If I set a link to the P3D root folder everything is working. Can anyone point me to the right direction? Thank's in advance, Patrick.

Got stutters? Low FPS? Try these! (Updated!)
If you set the controller to IDE Mode instead of AHCI, TRIM will not work anymore. TRIM is essential for live and performance of an SSD.

My Sandy Bridge Experience
So,finally I've got some time to test my SB deeper. In most areas SB kicks FSX in the A... Thats a fact! But at some well known hot spots, like ORBX NA blue (KSEA) (not the default FSX scenery), or KJFK, FSX makes it even hard for SB. In these hot spots It is more smooth than with my "old" 980x, but not completely fluid. Of cores, if you don't use a demanding aircraft like PMDG's 747 or heavy sceneries, then you get smoothness everywhere. It really depends on which add ons are installed and how all the settings are tweaked. I also watched some youtube videos but most of them was either made without cockpit view (of cores they are more smooth) or with less autogen.Have to test some more if my time allows me that.happy flyingPatrick

My Sandy Bridge Experience
Hi,May I ask you how many FPS u get and which add ons u use? I have FSDT KJFK, UTX, GEX, REX, Aerosoft Manhattan and UT2 with 70% AI and 80% GA and get 22 FPS with the MD11. ThanksregardsPatrick

My Sandy Bridge Experience
Hi SimonI fully agree with Corey. "High" Idle Voltage (in your case 1.40) should not be a problem as the Temps are good. But 17-19 C?. Are you sure that you have an up to date Tool which reading the temps correct? Or are you on chilled water? Here you can download a reliable Temp Tool (it is important to use version 3.67): http://www.mediafire...n99nq4kn95u6i6a regardsPatrick

I use Windows 7 SP1 RC and can't see any negative influence for FSX. FSX is too old to use AVX anyway.

My Sandy Bridge Experience
Hi HowardThat are the specs for i7 9xx Processors and not the SB ones. Max. Voltages not only depends on the fact if it is an 32nm but also on architecture and the substance they use. Here are the Specs for the new Sandy Bridge Processors (VID Range up to 1.52):

My Sandy Bridge Experience
Hi thereAs for Voltages, I use the one in the attachment for my SB with 2600K CPU @5GHz. Personally my max. VCore for SB is 1.52 for 24/7. According to Intel specs it is not absolutely clear if 1.52 is the max safe VCore because they say its the Range up to 1.52.Also very important are Temps. The combination of VCore and Temps is the key. I'm overclocking my systems for many years now and never had any issues. Ok, I also never had a System longer than 1-2 Years. My overclocking stations gets aprox. every 6 months new components. Thats my hobby though :Big Grin:

My Sandy Bridge Experience
Hi StephenIn most cases it is the BIOS Version which holding you back from using a higher multi. In other forums view people have same problem. Someone say that this can also be cpu related.Perheaps your mate can update the bios to the same veriosn you use.Patrick

My Sandy Bridge Experience
Hi StephenHave some more testing to do, as the tweaks works not the same way as it was the case with my 980x.BUT! One thing is for sure! With the 2600k my flight experience is much smoother than it was with 980x. Although FSX runs at equal FPS now. I have made a standard "benchmark" flight, so I can compare directly. The textures (cockpit, airports, AI, ...) loads much faster then before. As I wrote. I get only a view (1-4) FPS more now, but even in low 20's it feels much smoother with the new 2600k. At the moment I have also "only" 4GB of Mem. (it was 6GB with 980x). I'm also able to use more AI and car traffic now.I only changed the Mainboard and CPU. It makes even more fun to fly within FSX. I have to do an youtube vid. so others can see what I mean. But even SB is not able to run FSX (completely smooth) at max. settings with all the shiny addons out there and at the biggest hot-spots. But hey we getting close to it Patrick From Wikipedia: Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) is an extension to the x86 instruction set architecture for microprocessors from Intel and AMD proposed by Intel in March 2008.More: http://en.wikipedia....ctor_ExtensionsYou need Windows 7 SP1 to use AVX.

My Sandy Bridge Experience
Went from a 980x@4500MHz to the new 2600k@5000MHz with Gigabyte P67A-UD5. The difference (without reinstalling anything) is just great. Much smoother and crispier so far. Have to use new fsx.cfg tweaks as the old one don't work the same way. BP=0 is a must now.Sandy Bridge is great for FSX! Although not the holy grale, but close. :Batting Eyelashes:Kind RegardsPatrick

Problem with GTX-480 and i7-890X
HelloHave the same Hardware as you.Did you try to lock FPS to 25 or 30 and set TBM to 120? Had the same problem with TBM below 80.Which VGA Drive Version do you use?[Display]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=25TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120

nvidia 257.15 beta driver released
crashmax replied to audiohavoc's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcWow! Have tried some "old" tweaks like BufferPools set to 500MB and FFTF to 0.01 with locked FPS inside fsx.cfg. Result so far silky smooth at KSEA (ORBX PNW)... Have to test some more areas though.

980X HT Off & 3 Physical cores @ 5Ghz Possible?
Bob is right.Perhaps you can try to "underclock" your RAM to 1600MHz @8-8-7-22 1N or even 7-7-7-20 1N. You hav to try.Regards

980X HT Off & 3 Physical cores @ 5Ghz Possible?
After overclocking it is important to always run linx and prime95 to test stability. Run linx for 20 minutes and prime95 for 1.5h. If both tests are stable and temps are ok, then you have a stable overclocking. This is my experience.4.5GHz under air is very good! You must have a good 980X. This is my second 980X and it can do 4.8GHz under water, but it needs 1.54VCore and this is too much for 24/7 use, so I stay also with 4.5GHz.
