Resize (C:)

Featured Replies

I have just purchased a new computer and installed FSX and Acceleration on local disk (C:) which leaves me with very little space for addons. My question is, is it possible to increase the size of (C:) by shrinking the size of the next one (F:)? Any help will be most appreciated.Windows 7 UltimateTotal size of hard disk(s) 1457 GB Disk partition (C:) 9 GB Free (60 GB Total) Media drive (D:) CD/DVD Media drive (E:) CD/DVD Disk partition (F:) 1397 GB Free (1397 GB Total) Processor Intel® Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz Memory (RAM) 12.0 GB Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series x2Gaming graphics 3827 MB Total available graphics memory Primary hard disk 9GB Free (60GB Total)

With the Windows 7 disk manager you can resize a partition by deleting unnecessary extra partitions. Your PC manufacturer (foolishly) setup your hard drive with multiple partitions. Delete the F: partition and resize C: to take up the unoccupied space using the disk manager.

In my opinion , Create new partition for FSX only is best performance. when you install addon you should defrag partition to decrease access time , that reduce some stutter. The size of new partition depend on your Addon now and future , 100 GB -150 GB just suitable.

Take it from someone who has been burned before, BACK UP your valuable data before resizing the partition! And only delete F:\ if it's empty. But the best advice might be to not change the size of C:\.I will offer you this word of advice on the off chance that no-one else has. Hard-drive storage is cheap these days, be smart and take advantage of it

Thank you all for your suggestions. Michapma, I think the easiest way to do this may be to uninstall FSX from (C:) and install to (F:). As long as I get the same performance. Do you agree? The second dedicated hard drive sounds like a good idea for later.

You will get approximately the same performance by moving it to F:.Michapma is dead right, and I'll take it a bit further: get a second, fast SATA drive - 150 gig and put FSX on it. Get a third, 80 gig SATA drive - put you operating system on this one. Keep the big TB drive for all the "other stuff" - iTunes music, My pictures, Documents, FSX Addons, other games, etc...

4 disks - and still barely enough :( What does that tell you?
