Can you fly on a high powered workstation?

Featured Replies

HiI'm will be receiving from work soon a 64bit workstation set up for CAD with a Windows 7 operating system. I want to install FS9 with all my addons on this computer with the possibility of later trying FSX. I am wondering whether this high end system will run well and what tweaks can I achieve with this video card?SpecsDell Precision T5400 - Intel One Intel

Can you? Sure. Will it run any better than a desktop? No. In fact, it may run worse because the graphics driver is optimized for stability and performance in professional applications, rather than games. The CPU in that system is the same thing as a Core 2 Quad 9650. The GPU is roughly equivocal to a Geforce 8800 GTX. Neither of which are cutting edge anymore, but both of which should be able to get the job done.

What is the difference between a Core 2 Quad and a Xeon processor?

Xeons are server optimized - meaning they have specialized mircocode, also another sockel, for which you will need a server mobo, which in that case needs special RAM, which is usually slower due to more error checking etc. All those things are server important, meaning stability and speed. That is why they are usually slightly slower than normal Quads at same clocks. And 3x more expensive.

Are there any tweaks to either to the nVidia Quadro FX 5600Graphic Card or the CPU which I can make to increase the speed to play both FS2004 and FSX?SpecsDell Precision T5400 - Intel One Intel
