FS manager replacement?

Featured Replies

I ask here because I'm looking for a replacement of Rana's FS Manager's AI traffic functions...and that program uses TTools. I've asked everywhere about suggestions for an AI utility which performs ALL the functions that FS Manager did for AI traffic...but that is able to open the long, complicated traffic BGL filenames that are installed in FS9 by World of AI packages...without much luck. The suggestions that actually work do not perform the functions that Rana's program did for AI management. Most of the suggested programs will not run (yes, I have every Net framework and blah, blah installed LOL! ;)) I would be perfectly happy with FS Manager but since going to the individual WoA packages it will not decompile 99.9% of my 500+ WoA packages due to a "Syntax error" of the BGL name (from what I can tell). This error is generated by the FS manager's EXE and NOT by TTools...TTools will decompile the long filename BGL's without problem.I'm rambling here...let me explain this better...Here's what I liked about FS Managers AI tool:Once all traffic BGL's installed in FS9 are decompiled in FS manager (which uses TTools for this function) you can:1. Search for ALL traffic using a certain airport...it will list all AI Airlines and all AI Aircraft (in seperate parts of the main window) which use this airport.2. Search for all flightplans using a certain AI Aircraft (by "type" or by "type" and individual "Livery")3. Search for all flights of an individual AI Airline.4. All of the above can be cross referenced (or "filtered") so that you could end up with a list of "All flightplans of the UPS B767-200 flying into or out of KMEM". I have yet to find an FS9 AI utility with THAT amount of usefullness...and I've tried many that were suggested. Most won't even run.Now...the reason I asked for a replacement of FSM...it doesn't like 99.9% of WoA AI traffic package BGL file names...so...it will not pass them on to TTools to decompile and, thus, will not enter them in it's list of traffic files so they can be reviewed, edited, searched (as above), etc. WoA packages have unique, and long, filenames so that when an updated package comes along, the WoA installer can find the old flightplans and replace them with the latest, removing the old. This way, your UPS summer 2009 plans are replaced by your UPS winter 2009 plans. This results in BGL's named (as an example):Traffic_000_WoA_ABSA Cargo_Su08.bglTHAT one actually worked...most don't:Clipboard01.jpgSo...I'm looking for an AI utility which can do ALL of the things FSM's AI tool does...or a way to fix this no longer supported payware program to stop balking at filenames. As a side note I have found one VERY long fix:1. Decompile a WoA traffic BGL with TTools.2. Save the 3 resultant txt files in a zip file. (FSM apparently stores it's decompiled traffic files that way)3. Name the zip file to reflect the Woa traffic filename.4. Move that zip to the FSM Data folder.5. Repeat that process over 500 times. ( ;-P )I've tried that with 2 files that would not work in FSM...and they now load and are viewable in FSM's AI tool. I am not doing that over 500 times!! ;)Any advice, insight or ideas are trully, GREATLY appreciated, at this point.Vic

Sorry I can't answer your question, but why not learn how to do AI manually. There are still a lot of TTools bgl's out there, and AI utilities to make working with the .txt (source files) very easy to work with. You'd be able to modify those huge txt files, and do all the things you want to do, fairly easily. It's really not that hard, and a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.

You may have missed one of my points, Mike...try figuring out every AI airline (let alone every aircraft) which flies to a certain airport...manually? :( I have over 500 WoA AI packages installed, each with it's own traffic BGL. The task would involve manually decompiling each of those and searching each flightplan.txt for , as an example, KDEN. The FSM interface makes it easy to manipulate / filter all of the 500, after being decompiled once, for the info I'm looking for. It also makes it easier to edit plans, replace aircraft models for certain airlines, etc., etc. Once all bgl's are decompiled into FSM, they are retained in it's database...never having to be decompiled again. I think what I really need is a software guru to tell me how to correct the error I get in FSM when initially trying to add one of the "500" to it's database. That's the only real hitch in the entire program.

Hi,Why don't you rename the BGL files? There are free batch file renaming utilities on the web that would do it very quickly. One possibility is to remove the offending symbol (I assume) with something else.Hope this helps,

Tom...there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to differentiate between filenames that work and filenames that don't, at least not that I have been able to determine. I have tried renaming some by removing spaces, replacing spaces with underscores...nothing really works consistently. The problem with renaming, anyway, is that the next update for a package from WoAI will not find the old one and overwrite it, I'm assuming. That's not too big of a deal...just a bit of manual removing after updates. I'm going to try some really drastic renaming and see what happens.

HiYou may like to try http://aifs2.pvdveen.net/?download=ACA2005 This will scan all the AI BGL's and Aircraft too. It then offers many different options for fligthplan and timetable interrogation for individual airports and airlines. I cannot live without this program.Another one I use it Traffic Manager but this does not seemt to be supported - it was freeware and allows you to manage your AI flight plans, edit, create and delete.Hope this helps.Ken
