FSX Freeze with PMDG MD11

Featured Replies

Hi all,I have just done a fresh install of W7 64bit. Updated all drivers. Clean install of FSX with acceleration. Only addon is PMDG MD11.My spec's: I7 920, 12GB Ram, 2x5970(crossfire disabled),CORSAIR 250GB SSD, EVGA X58 CLASSIFIED MB, CORSAIR HX1000W POWER SUPPLY. My problem is EVERY single time i go flying in PMDG MD11 FSX Freezes. One time I left it frozen to see if it would come right..... well after 2 hours I gave up! I have to do the Ctrl, Alt , Del to restart FSX. I have spent HOURS going over the AVsim etc formums trying to find an answer. I have followed most advance in formums but still FSX freezes. Most of the time it freezes after 1.5 hours. The following is a event log from my last flight; Log Name: ApplicationSource: Application HangDate: 5/2/2010 9:30:04 PMEvent ID: 1002Task Category: (101)Level: ErrorKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: Chris-PCDescription:The program fsx.exe version 10.0.61637.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. Hopefully that will fix problem.Cheers Chris Durney

So this happens only with the PMDG MD11?Did you OC your i7 920, if so you might have an unstable OC and that is why FSX is locking up. If you OC'ed your 920 did you perform any stress testing to see if your rig is stable?Even if you did not OC you should do some stress testing to make sure everything is stable. You may have a ram issue. Trying running only 6GB of ram and see if that makes a difference. You may have a driver issue for your GPU, try a different driver.Actually you could also try removing one of your 5970's and see if that makes a difference. It could be a heat issue, what are your 920 core temps when you are running FSX when it locks up? Download RealTemp to view your core temps.http://www.soft82.com/version/download/win...58-1-beta-3-40/ To get 3.58.1 you have to select it 1/2 to 2/3 down the page, I have not tried 3.58.2 yet, but if you want to download that one it should be fine. On the settings page make sure that your TjMax is set to 100C.Rod

Hi Rod,Thanks for reply.I had computer built by a well known gaming computer company in Auckland. I know they did OC my I7 920 to 3.4 and stressed it. How do you stress it?I am building a home built cockpit so use the 2 ATI 5970 for 4 LCDs. I had this problem when i was only using one LCD and different ATI CCC drivers. so I did a complete re install of W7. Still have problem.I know my idle temp is around 35C so will have a look at it under load.I'm know computer expert, but from what I have read on different forums, I think it is a W7 problem. I think MS need to come up with a patch. Thanks again for help.Chris Durney

I got this PC the first of December and it only has had Win7 on it and I have had zero problems with it and FSX has never locked up. Unless it is something to do with your installation Win7 is not your problem. To stress a PC download OCCT and run the CPU:OCCT test for one hour, test mode is meduim data set and priority is normal. Turn all other programs off while this is running and just let it run, do not surf the web or anything else. Do not start this until you have downloaded RealTemp and keep an eye on your temps, they really should not go over 80C, the highest mine went was 76C. If it does not pass you are not stable, if it does pass then on to the next test. For any of these tests just let them run and do not do anthing else on your PC while they are running.http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index...perestroika-310Next test is Prime95, download the one for your OS, 32b or 64b. Run the default test and that should be Blend. Then number of threads is going to be 8 if you have hyperthreading enabled and 4 if you have it disabled like it do. Let it run at least 8 hours and again keep an eye on your temps, again it is preferable that your core temps do not go over 80C. The highest that mine went was 76C. If it passes on to the next, if it does not pass you are not stable.http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/browse.php?c=18Next download LinX, use a problem size of 25,000 and run it 20 passes. Same thing keep an eye on your temps, on this one mine temps got to 83C. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=201670If you pass all of these then you can consider your rig stable. I would like to mention that even if you pass you may have some BSOD's or lockups. I passed all of these and still got a BSOD every week to 10 days, I had to go back in and tweak a few of my voltages. Rather than me go into a lengthy narrative you can read about it from the below link. I have not had a BSOD since 2/20 and that is the last time I changed any of my voltages, that last time I ran OCCT, Prime95 and LinX.http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/669537...0x00000101.htmlMost people with 920's that OC them are running at 4GHz, you may consider increasing your OC.It may also be something to do with your OC settings. What motherboard do you have? I have an Asus P6T Deluxe v2 and my OC settings are below.Whey you see something like this "1.30625 01/24/10 - 1.31250 02/07/10 - 1.32500 02/15/10"it means on 1/24 that setting was at 1.30625 then on 2/7 it was changed to 1.31250 and on 2/15 it was changed to 1.32500Note that the ram settings are specifically for my ram and unless you have the same ram yours will not be the same.RodOverclock Settings February 20, 2010 (4.2GHz)AI Overclock Tuner: ManualCPU Ratio Setting: 21xIntel SpeedStep Tech: DisabledIntel Turbo Mode Tech: DisabledBLCK Frequency: 200PCIE Frequency: 100DRAM Frequency: DDR3-1603MHzUCLK Frequency: 3208MHzQPI Link Data Rate: Auto (3600 MHz)DRAM Timing Control1st Information :CAS# Latency: 6DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay: 7DRAM RAS# PRE Time: 6DRAM RAS# ACT Time: 182nd Information :DRAM Timing Mode: 1N CPU Voltage: 1.30625 01/24/10 - 1.31250 02/07/10 - 1.32500 02/15/10CPU PLL Voltage: Auto 01/24/10 - 1.82 02/17/10QPI/DRAM Core Voltage: 1.34375 01/24/10 - 1.35000 02/07/10 - 1.34375 02/20/10IOH Voltage: Auto 01/24/10 - 1.20 02/17/10ICH Voltage: Auto 01/24/10 - 1.20 02/20/10DRAM Bus Voltage: 1.66Load Line Calibration: EnabledCPU Spread Spectrum: DisabledPCIE Spread Spectrum: DisabledAll Other Settings: AutoAdvance CPU SettingsCPU Ratio Setting: 21x C1E Suppport: DisabledHardware Prefetcher: EnabledAdjacent Cache Line Prefetch: EnabledIntel

read the sticky on the general forum, there are some fsx.cfg tweaks to do like HIGHMEM=1Also disable DEP in the command line, search google to find out howGo into your c:\user\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft\fsx and delete the fsx.cfg.txt file tooDid you right click and run the installers as administrator? Are you running the pmdg loading manager as administrator? Are you running fsx.exe as administrator?

Hi, and thanks for tips.Just did a 12 hour flight from NZAA-KLAX. NO FREEZE!!! Before flight i updated All MB drivers.Hope I have fixed problemOh just wondering, do you guys fly in Windowed mode or full screen mode in FSX. I usually fly in Full, but noticed if I go windowed the Graphics are a lot sharper. Cheers Chris Durney

This was one of the most helpful threads in a long time. I've been having freeze ups as well, and it turns out my i7 which was overclocked to 3.8 was spiking into the hot zone. Just ordered a new heat sink from New Egg and made and appointment to have it installed (have to pull the motherboard and the thought makes me weary). Hopefully this will bring down the temps. Thanks all for the great resources here. Colin Ware
