  1. Sounds like a GPU related problem, as in your GPU and/or CPU is not powerful enough. List the specs of your computer.
  2. Regarding #1 above, have you cleaned the inside of your PC in the last three years, your problem with booting into Windows maybe related to how much dust ect. is in the PC. Your HSF may need to be reseated and the thermal paste replaced. If your PC is overclocked the above would apply even more. Maybe your CMOS battery needs replaced and/or you need to clear CMOS and put all of your BIOS settings back in from scratch. Regarding #2-4 above, #5 maybe the cause. I do not think #5 would have anything to do with #1 since your OS drive would not come into play until after you have booted past what you are seeing in #1 and Windows actually starts to load.
  3. If you are willing to reinstall everything from scratch, use Diskpart to clean all your drives, then uplug all drives except your OS drive and install Win7 from scratch. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html After you get Win7 installed plug your other drives back in. Make sure that you shut the PC off everytime you unplug and plug drives back in. How to use your Win7 install CD to get into Diskpart. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/119713-diskpart-pc-startup.html?ltr=D
  4. This guy did some tests between 2 sticks of ram and 4. Click on "2 vs 4 sticks" at the bottom of the table. http://www.overclock.net/t/1570219/skylake-6700k-memory-tests-speed-vs-latency So with a benchmark you do get better performance with 4 sticks on Skylake. In the real world will the improvement actually be noticable!
  5. Veron, see my post in your thread in the hardware forum at SimForums.
  6. From NickN's FSX Bible. You can get the complete document at the support forums of flight1.com ____________________________________________________________________________ IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: Just after installing FSX with the patches, install the POST SP1 C++ Library 2005 Update Click here: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961894/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2067 A few lines down the list. You want to download and install: ENU (vcredist_x86.exe) runtime binary, 2682K, uploaded Jan 13 2009 NOTE: Or the one which is right for your OS language ENU= ENGLISH Alternate Link This is a direct download link to the correct 32bit ENGLISH version: http://gex.flight1.net/forumimages/KB961894_VC++_Post_2005_SP1.zip The C++ Library update is needed for aircraft support and is installed with FSX/Acceleration. The link above is to the update which did not ship with Acceleration. You want the 32bit version (x86) not the 64 bit version even if you use a 64bit OS. FSX is a 32bit application and requires the 32bit version of the C++ Library update. IMPORTANT NOTE: After you have applied the Post SP1 2005 C++ Library patch Windows Update will locate the version and update it automatically and correctly. The original update that shipped with FSX/Acceleration has a error in it that the patch above corrects and from there Windows Update under the 'OPTIONAL' updates will offer a update version (VC++ 2010) which is required for many different planes. The more advanced Flight1 aircraft with G1000 use the VC++2010 Library update. When you run Windows Update (as outlined LATER in this outline) be sure to review the OPTIONAL updates and install the ones that are not Microsoft Bloatware such as BING Desktop or toolbars. Many of those optional Windows Updates are very important.
  7. It is in the avsim library, in FSX Utilities look for Autothumbnail v2 - Fix for Windows 7 http://library.avsim.net/index.php?CatID=fsxutil&Sort=Name&ScanMode=0&Page=5 It is not really a fix for Win7, but a exe file for Win7 64b OS. You need to first install the 32b version of ATN and then overwrite the 32b exe with the 64b exe.
  8. For a base setup of NI in FSX you can start here. After you have installed, setup and tested for correct operation and performance in FSX per the link you will just need to change the various settings and test to see what works best for you. http://www.simforums.com/forums/drivers-nv-inspector-fsxcfg-complete-guide_topic36586.html There is a default Prepar3D setup in NI, but I do not use Prepar3D so I do not know if the Nick's base FSX settings will work in P3D. You can use the search function and search in the P3D forum on this site and this forum to see if anyone has posted basic settings for NI.
  9. Did you install any addon airports or other scenery that included traffic.bgl's for those airports/scenery? If so you need to get rid of those traffic.bgl's. A tool is available in the MTX forums that will look for traffic.bgl's and then you know where they are and you can disable them or delete them, your choice.
  10. I only use that site for notices on patch Tuesday update problems and nothing else! I do not even read anything on that site that does not have to do with patch Tuesday update problems!
  11. MS pulled KB294927 from updates on the 17th, that is why you did not see it. This kind of problem is exactly why I have auto update off, I only update manually and I always wait at least a week before I update. Before I update I go to this site to read any news on update problems. http://www.askwoody.com/ Not as good, but another site to read about any update problems. http://pcsupport.about.com/
  12. If you have an anti virus program running turn that off and download one that was corrupt before and see it that works. Before you turn off your AV and download make sure that you know you are downloading from a safe site. Also after you download you can turn your AV back on and scan the downloaded file before you try to unzip it.
  13. The first thing that I would do is remove the SSD's from the Marvel ports and put them back on the Intel ports. If your FSX SSD is still acting up try a different SATA cable. If it is still acting up hook up your new SSD and boot into Windows. Copy everything from your old FSX SSD to your new one. After everything is copied shut off your PC, but make sure that you look and remember what drive your old FSX SSD is. As an example my OS is on C: FSX is on F: and my DVD is D: Unplug your old FSX SSD and plug your new FSX SSD into the same SATA port the old one was plugged into. Turn the PC back on. Once in Windows click on the start button and in the run box type "disk management" make sure that "create and format hard disk partitions" is highlighted and hit enter. In Disk Management select your new FSX SSD and then right click on it, then select "change drive letter and paths" change the drive letter of your new FSX SSD to the drive letter of your old FSX SSD, close everything and reboot, verify that your new FSX SSD has the same drive letter as your old FSX SSD and you should be good to go, no need to reinstall everything, but you will need to overwrite anything you tried to install/copy to your old FSX SSD that did not complete. So in the end if I was doing this I would now have a new FSX SSD with the drive letter F: and this new FSX SSD would have everything copied to it from the old FSX SSD. You should not have to reinstall anything, but if for some reason this does not work then a complete uninstall/reinstall is what you would need to do at this point.
  14. I have an Asus Sabertooth Z87, the UEFI should look close to the same. This picture shows boot option 1 and 2. In this picture boot option 1 is my Samsung 840 Pro on Intel SATA port 2, this is my OS SSD. Boot option 2 on Intel SATA port 1 is my DVD drive. http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p339/idahosurge/40-BOOT-1B_zpse161736c.png This picture shows the other boot options and how I have them setup. http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p339/idahosurge/39-BOOT-1A_zpscc396681.png
  15. In UEFI you set your OS drive to first boot priority so it looks to boot off that first rather than looking at your DVD or a USB first.
  16. Neither, the BIOS should end with .CAP and Asus now states that you should update the BIOS with their BIOS Updater tool and not update through the UEFI or EZ Flash 2. I do not know where you got this BIOS from, but the latest on the Asus website for the Z87-A is 2103 and the BIOS file name is Z87-A-ASUS-2103.CAP You can download the BIOS updater and the 2103 BIOS at http://www.service.asus.com/#!downloads/c1wax After you download and unzip it go to the V2.00.02 and double click on the Update.exe file, select your BIOS and follow directions. When it reboots you need to leave it alone and let if finish. It may seem like it is taking awhile, but just wait until it is done!!!!!!! It may reboot more than once before it is done. After it is finished updating all UEFI settings will be at default. After you update it you will have to get into the UEFI and put any OC settings and any other settings that you may have changed back in along with setting up which SSD/HD is your first boot priority ect. Beware that updating your BIOS may cause your OC to become unstable. If it does you will have to verify the stability of your OC and change settings as necessary to get it stable again.
  17. 1- If you install one of Ray's, we will call it KJFK-RS.bgl then you rename the MTX bgl to BR2-KJFK-bgl.off or .passive or .whatever, the .off has to be after the .bgl so do not use off.BR2-KJFK.bgl it has to be BR2-KJFK.bgl.off 2- If Ray's bgl is above the MTX bgl in the scenery library priority FSX should use Ray's and ignore the MTX one, but it is a good idea to disable any in MTX that you have added another bgl for be it Ray's or anyone else. It is better to do this than making more decision work for FSX and running the risk of confusing FSX with everything you are adding. 3- As far as Ray's affecting MTX, probably not and Ray's will probably will be better. Let's say you have an MTX bgl that Burkhard has not updated since 2010 and you have a bgl from Ray that he just updated. Ray's bgl as far as parking codes will be more up to date than Burkhard's. As an example one problem you may run into is that Burhard's old bgl was update to accept a A380 and when Ray made his new bgl he did not include a parking space at a gate large enough to accept an A380 so with Ray's bgl the A380 parks at a ramp someplace and never at the terminal. This is just an example and I am not saying that this is going to happen. I use MTX 5.4b and I have a lot of Ray's bgl's installed, never had a problem with any of Ray's and when I install an addon bgl from anyone I always disable the duplicate MTX bgl.
  18. Regardless of what you or anyone else thinks of Nick and his opinions it is the best guide out there for overclocking haswell. Rather than just say you would not recommend this one post a link to a better one, if you even know of a better one!
  19. The best guide on the net that I have ever seen for overclocking a 4770K or 4970K is http://www.simforums.com/forums/haswell-48ghz-on-air-building-a-haswell-system_topic46180.html
  20. Control Panel > Hardward and Sound > Devices and Printers > right click on the icon for your joystick, it will not necessarily look like a joy stick, the icon for mine looks like a game controller and not a joy stick. After you right click go to "Game Controller Settings" and then you will just have to look through whatever pops up to find what you want.
  21. For starters you need to make sure that the resolution in both Windows and FSX display settings are set the same and this should be set to the recommended resolution or your 40" Samsung. It sounds like you have already did this, but in your fsx.cfg under the display settings make sure you have: WideViewAspect=True
  22. It should be fine as long as it has the features you want and you are not expecting the best overclocking motherboard on the market. Here is a table that shows what each Asus Z97 board has: http://www.asus.com/us/site/motherboards/Z97/comparison/ Here are offical Asus Z97 support threads that you can look through to see if anyone with that board posted good or bad reviews. http://www.overclock.net/t/1488891/asus-z97-motherboards-official-support-thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?288988-ASUS-Z97-Motherboards-Official-Support-Thread I would also google reveiws for that board and read any reviews from good tech sites that people have made.
  23. Easier overclocking - not really. Better overclocking features - yes, but you would probably never come close to using all the added overclocking features unless you are the type of person who is willing to spend days on end tweaking and testing to see if each of the settings you can change will make a difference. In paticular the Asus ROG boards allow a large amount of tweaking to the ram settings. Also unless you are the type of person that is going to go for every ounce of OC you can get out ot the CPU then you would probably not benifit. Whether or not they are worth the money is really up to the person buying them although the average person would never come close to even using half the extra overclock settings. Then there can be cases where they are worse. The Asus Maximus VI Extreme took more vcore to run the same 4770K at the same overclock as a standard Asus board like a Sabertooth Z87. At least two different reviewers of the M6E ran into this when they were testing the M6E. They just happened to still have the same 4770K they had when testing a regular Asus Z87 board. I also verified this with an M6E I had and then got a Sabertooth Z87. I got rid of my M6E because I could not get a stable OC above 4.4GHz, by the time I decided something was wrong with the MB I was so tired of messing with it I did not want another one and got a Sabertooth Z87. On the other hand with my 980X I had a R3E and it was so easy overclocking that 980X to 4.4GHz that I thought that R3E was great and well worth what I paid for it. Here is an overclocking guide from Asus for the M6E, it will give you an idea of all the extra OC settings an Asus ROG board comes with. http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?33488-Maximus-VI-Series-UEFI-Guide-for-Overclocking&country=&status=
  24. If you want to do a clean install from scratch: 1- Any files and anything else on your current RAID0 setup that you want to keep you need to copy to a USB flash drive or HD so you can copy them to your new setup later. The reason for this is when you do a fresh install of Win7 you RAID0 will be gone. 2- If I were you I would install Win7 on the Adata 120GB and puts FSX and all FSX addons on the Crucial 480GB. 3- Plug in the SSD to your MB that you are going to install Win7 on and leave all other harddrives and SSD's unplugged. If you want to install Windows 7 without the 100MB partition the installer always wants to add follow this guide. I never let Windows install that 100MB partition, it is a complete waste of good SSD space. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html 1) Create a single partition of the entire HDD / SSD 4- Install Windows. 5- After you install Windows get the CD that came with your motherboard and install all the drivers from that CD. Look at the manual that came with your motherboard for the proper order to install all the drivers. 6- After you get the drivers installed run Windows Update and update Windows. After you update run it again and again until you get a message that Windows is updated. 7- After that install the driver for your GPU that you want and any other hardware drives that you want to install. 8- Plug your other SSD in and your hard drives in then install all other software, copies of files to My Documents, My Pictures, etc.
  25. If both PC's had the exact same hardware then it would be okay, but since they are totally different, Intel vs AMD, it is a bad idea. When you install Windows it automatically installs the necessary default drivers for all the hardware it detects so if you install Windows on your AMD machince and then transfer the SSD to you Intel machince Windows would have all the wrong drivers. When you first booted into Windows you could have some major problems. Also when you register Windows and most other software the registration keys off your motherboard so when you transferred the SSD you would have to register all your software all over again. If you used an OEM version of Windows that OEM version would be tied to the original motherboard it was installed on and you may run into difficulties getting MS to let you register it on the other motherboard. Any Flight1 products that you may have would have to be reinstalled from scratch due to changing hardware. Some of your other FSX addons might have to be reinstalled to if they detect the different CPU/MB as new hardware. All in all I think that it is just a bad idea and you should just hook the SSD up to the CPU/MB you want it to run on and install everything on that setup.
