FSX Scenery compatibility

Featured Replies

I used to know the answer to this one but it has been 3 years since I flew FSX.I downloaded a pacific island set of scenery that is supposed to be FSX compatible. The trees on the islands have black squares around them. Is this an incompatibilitybetween FS2004 and FSX or a graphics setup problem ?Should I ask this question at a different forum ? :( :( :(

It would help to know exactly what you downloaded (the filename and source) so one of use can take a look at it (assuming it is freeware) and see if we have the issue you do.Without knowing what you got, my first thought is missing textures but would need to see the package to be sure.Posting a screenshot of the "black squares' would also be helpful.

I think it is a general problem with FSX SP2 (and acceleration pack). These trees were probably made with old FS5-style scenery code, and FSX SP2 does not support transparent pixels in such textures, hence the black squares. It's a nuisance, but then it's amazing that many objects designed for FS5 (anno 1993) still work with FSX, isn't it?There is a software that fixes many texture problems in FSX SP2 called "Addon Converter X", but IIRC it doesn't fix black squares around trees. The only other solution would be to downgrade to FSX SP1, but you will be taking a frame rate hit.

The scenery I downloaded was..... ================================================ FRENCH POLYNESIA TUAMOTU ARCHIPELAGO SCENERY Part A for Microsoft Flight Simulator X By Kazuo Kawamura ================================================ I think you are right about the SP2 and that is the problem. I'll send Kaz an email about the problem...

If you do a search in the library, using Kazuo Kawamura as the criteria, you will find an update for that scenery which addresses several SP2 issues.Have you checked into that?
