May 13, 201016 yr Just for anyone wondering, Linux looks like it's finally getting it's foot in the door with gaming. As it is now confirmed that Linux is getting access to Steam and at least some of the Valve games titles catalog by the end of the summer. To put this in perspective, Steam is the leading digital distribution platform for PC gaming, and Valve tends to make very popular games such as Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike Source, Left 4 Dead, and the Half Life series of games. It looks like Linux gaming is going to be picking up steam now.Source (read the last paragraph):http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/appl...-goes-live.html Peter Clemenko IIIFormer AVSIM Staff ReviewerAll posts on the fourm are my own, and not representative of AVSIM.PFE Expansion voice actor"Solving new problems is what keeps us moving forward as individuals and as a society, so don't back down." May 15, 201016 yr Now imagine X-Plane on Steam... no huge global scenery, only small high detailed region parts.. i'm sure they would reach a broad audience :)
May 17, 201016 yr Author Now imagine X-Plane on Steam... no huge global scenery, only small high detailed region parts.. i'm sure they would reach a broad audience :)Honestly, X-Plane would be out of it's element on Steam. Steam is more geared toward normal gamers, not hard core simmers. The bigger impact is just getting the normal gamers to a step toward Linux. If enough gamers start doing that, and enough developers start making Linux versions because they now see the market, that could help break Microsoft's grip on computer gaming. May 18, 201016 yr X-Plane isn't out of its element on the IPhone and IPad.X-Plane is the perfect example of a modern simulation game, without being silly and cartoonish. And Steam offers a huge varity and is very important for PC games and via Steam you can reach millions of gamers. The future is multi-platform, multi-devices, open standards, so MS will become extinct.

The reason why it would be out of it's element is sheer download size actually. That's the only real reason.
