FSX Rig 5 Choices

Featured Replies

I have been pricing out building my own and it really is not becoming much cheaper. I have looked at some other machines and I am probably going to pick one of these. Which one do you find best for FSX? I know the vid cards are not the newest but right now I cant afford anything more I will look to upgrade later. All have Win 7 64 bit. 1) i7 930(2.8GHz) 6GB DDR3 1TB ATI Radeon HD 5770 (cheapest rig) 2) i7 860(2.80GHz) 4GB DDR3 1TB ATI Radeon HD 5850 (is the speed of this 860 correct? Would the better card be worth the 860 instead of the 930 even though they both are showing the same speed, is the DDR3 too low?.) 3) Intel Core i7 920(2.66GHz) 9GB DDR3 1TB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 4 )i7 930(2.8GHz) 8GB DDR3 1TB ATI Radeon HD 55705) i7 860(2.80GHz) 8GB DDR3 1.5TB ATI Radeon HD 5850 First two are made by Cyber Power I think I would be more comfortable buying a HP which the other 3 are. Any comments. Thanks again this has been a long process for me but I was on FS9 today and it just crashed out I am ready for a new rig after 7 years.

Steven Herzberg,

IMO stay away from the ATI cards. the 58xx series dont seem to have as many issues with FS though so you might be okay with those, but unless you're playing other games, besides FS, I'd go with nvidia to be safe. Beware of using companies like HP because they don't give you a bid enough power supply for the hardware. you should take a look at this website: http://www.ibuypower.com/ . IMO you'll get the most bang for your buck there.

In my opinion, none of those machines. They are all flawed in many ways. A budget would be nice to know. I recommend:i7 930 OCd to 4GHz6GB (3x 2GB) DDR3 1600MHz C7 or less ram (latency is important)asus or gigabyte mobo700W or more PSU (Corsair, OCZ)Nvidia GTX 275 or more (preferably GTX470, 285 or 480), stay away from ATI for FSXA high airflow case (Antec 900/902, CM 922/932)Western Digital Caviar Black HD for OSWestern Digital Caviar black or velociraptor for FSX (different HD, and no raid)a good CPU cooler for OCing (CM V10, Corsair H50, Thermaltake X)plus your perphirals and monitor (LCD, HD monitor)
