Urgent Help with sound card

Featured Replies

I need some help, I just got a sound card Creative Labs Titanium Pro, anyways I have never had a sound card before, my mobo UD7 only has one small PCIEX slot that it can fit into, but its blocked and I can't get the card in. Now I have 2 PCIEX 16 slots and 2 PCIEX 8 slots, can I install the sound card in one of them, if so which one would be best the 16 or 8? I just want to be 100% sure, I don't want to fry anything.

You may install the PCIe x1 card in any PCIe slot. Please make sure it's a PCIe not PCI slot. Some older boards still have PCI slots on the very end away from the proc.Chris

Thanks, now does it matter if its a PCIex16 or PCIex8 performance wise.

Not at all, as the system will allocate leftover PCIe lanes to the slots available. A 1x card will get 1 lane. On the other hand there is a chance that a second 16x card may only get 8 lanes. There are others here that can explain much better but the bottom line is that he card negotiates for the best amount of lanes it can get up to its size. That's why many folks here say to go with a 1366 board because they rarely run out of lanes (bandwidth).Chris
