  1. Veemaniq, Give spybot's anti-beacon utility a try and let us know. Enable all options. It stops a lot if not all of the constant reporting and chatter over the network from your Win10.
  2. Even though I was a technet subscriber and had access to the Win 10 betas, I haven't had time to keep up and DL the betas. When the anniversary update is available to all beginning on August 2, we shall see! Thanks for the heads up. BTW...I just like the older Win7 (and XP) look to my menus and screens...and others may as well, so to each his own! Chris
  3. For many of you that have made the change to Windows 10, the following apps might help to ease your pain....google them for sites or download info: Classic Start Menu - allows you to customize the look of your desktop, menus and windows with tweaks as well...very reliable must have program Spybot Anti-beacon - Turns off most if not all the MS reporting features of Windows 10 and keeps them off using a simple easy to use app Bloatware Removal - Google Windows 10 bloatware to remove and follow the simple instructions to remove many apps that needlessly run in the background Carroll Utility - Allows for different resolutions in different accounts on same PC...handy for multi-user PCs I'm sure there are more, but none of the above compromise the added security built into Win 10 and keep your install running smoothly. Regards
  4. I concur. Just removed the AFX_KLGA_ALT.bgl from that directory and KLGA is back to normal. I suspect the other airport files following similar naming should also be removed if the product was removed and all should be fine.
  5. Same here...I ran a demo of Drzewiecki's NY Airports X which includes KLGA - removed it and now I have large brush looking plants on the runway!
  6. Having used Steam now for a few years with the Train Simulator series, I've often encountered problems after RSC or DTG (the companies that have written the Train Simulator series) have decided to send updates via steam when logging in or running the above mentioned. We as a community have made many changes and mods to FSX over the years and so have 3rd party developers. What's left to be seen is if these mods and changes will get damaged forcing a complete install or at least a "file verify" as Steam calls it. Third party Train Sim developers have run into this and usually run "offline" when using the sim. When that first update comes, we'll all know! Just my thoughts from past experience! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
  7. Martin, Expensive but very well built with surge for components and highly rated by computer users: Anker® USB Hub with 9 USB 3.0 Data Ports + 1 Smart Charging Port (5V / 2.1A) with 12V 5A Power Adapter [VIA VL812-B2 Chipset]Find it on Amazon or go to their site. Regards
  8. My thought would be to put the two 1 TBs on a raid 0 and get max speed and full space out of them. Any other raid level will not allow (other than JBOD) you to gain you max space.
  9. I'll second Brian's thoughts. I've been running AMD/ATI for quite a while now going from a 5850 to a 7950 with an i2500K proc. I get great results. Please go to the hardware section and read the topic started by CVEARL on AMD/ATI configurations. It's a 10 page read but very very good. Lot's of good tips. I love the crisp graphics derived from ATI cards in not only flight simming, but also in other applications. Having said all of that, I am aware that their is a performance hit in very cloudy skies. I am also aware that ATI drivers and also their update process leave me muttering not too nice words...LOL. Enjoy your great rig and do experiment with settings as recommended above.
  10. Dazkent, Goates makes an excellent point. Since you have only a vga video requirement, your choices are plentiful. A DVI kvm is more expensive but well worth it if you have higher-end video cards and a good monitor. Any name brand kvm will suit you well, but always try to read some user reviews from multiple sources. I've used a Belkin in work until I got lazy and now just have multiple systems and monitors on my desktop....LOL! Good luck on your search.
  11. Synergy requires separate monitors but shares mouse and keyboard...
  12. Think I'm gonna purchase for iPad initially (wife's tablet) and then for Android when I purchase one this fall. I'm intrigued by the fact that it can be used in GPS mode, so that I can take the software and use it away from simulation....but not for real world....of course! For $12 and a connect to FS, you can't go wrong. Regards.....Chris
  13. Hi Everyone, As a Gigabyte 7950 owner running FS9 and FSX I've been following this topic. In addition to the CCC, I use Radeon Pro, a free utility to further refine the settings on AMD cards. It can be found here and should be given a try: www.radeonpro.info Thanks for all the great posts. Nice to see that there are other AMD users that agree this card is not at all bad for FS(9 or X). IMO, radeon cards provide fantastic image quality. Regards......Chris
  14. +1 on the 12.11 beta 6 ....................no problems to speak of but I did download the 13.1 drivers and will update as I have time.
  15. More on my testing with Redfly Screenslider.....evidently the video driver the app uses on the PC is not liked much by either FS9 or FSX but you can override and run your simulator. Whats important is that you run it in a windowed mode and undock whatever window (in my case the FMC or GPS) you wish to slide over to the tablet. After following these simple steps, the app worked great! Having said that, I was not impressed by the speed or functionality of the touch. The touch simply places the cursor on the spot you touch and then achieves an equivalent press of the mouse. The speed is off, often times you have to wait a fraction of a second for the cursor to catch up. After working on an FMC the lag becomes annoying. Although it can be done. Screenslider costs $0.99 USD from the google app store and the PC software is free. Warning though, touch capability requires Screenslider Pro for $4.99. I am running a 30-day demo of the pro version. Hope this helps some of you thinking about using your tablets. Chris
  16. Hi Luc, Just put Redfly Screenslider on an Android Samsung Note 10.1 running jellybean 4.1.2 to do the same and FSX keeps shutting down on me when sliding the FMC over to the tablet. Need to work on the settings but the app does work nicely over local WiFi. Would like it to work over a usb cable instead as Idisplay does. May need to borrow the Mrs' Ipad 4 when flying....LOL! I hope this post keeps going as this is a great use of touch tablet technology! Chris
  17. Hi Cvearl, Funny how I started this discussion back when and ended up with a Gigabit 7950....and I love it! Temps stay way cool (running at 28C currently) after computing and simming all afternoon, compared to my old 5850 which I could have cooked dinner on by now...LOL. I also use the RadeonPro util for finer settings changes. I use FS9, FSX, MSTS and TrainSimulator2013 in addition to video and graphics editing. I went and tested a GTX670, 680 and an AMD 7970, but best bang for the buck was the 7950. Why, because I was able to pick it up for $269 on sale and the image quality IMO is far better than that of Nvidia especially in video and graphics applications. I run a stock 2500K (see my components) but fly stutter free with reliability. Resolution stays at 1680x1050 but for other reasons than simming. My graphic profiles for the simulators are the norm discussed over and over here based on other expertise. I'm very happy with resolution, display, smoothness and the whole sim experience with my 7950. Regards......Chris
  18. Hi Jean-Claude, Try removing drivers, then run the driver cleaner. If you can, boot into safe mode and remove drivers or run cleaner further (some drivers active cannot be removed unles in safe mode). Then reboot and cancel any attempt for the system to install video drivers on its own. You'll boot into an ugly VGA screen resolution temporarily until you run the AMD driver install. Just went through this with the latest beta from AMD for my Gigabyte 7950. (BTW...have not updated my signature yet with latest hardware so disregard what you see below) Hope this helps.....Chris
  19. Andy, Hopefully you feel comfy with regedit. Go in and do a find in the "Local Machine" or "Local User" for the name of your software first. If not successful, search for terms such as "startup, runonce, and run". Warning, you will get many many hits especially with "run", but you might find the culprit hidden away. This is how malware typically hides itself, although I know this is not malware. You may also want to email the SETI project and ask them, or better yet, google how to remove. Good Luck.
  20. With the level of hardware now available for the masses at a truly low cost, relatively speaking, why would'nt they re-think their simulation stance? Also, ever wonder why the code wasn't released to a trusted third party to bring it up-to-date hardware wise? Maybe (hopefully) there are still plans besides the new Flight, for the franchise! Third-party work continues and is growing for other sims. Maybe someone is noticing?
  21. Aharon, The compressed air will work unless.....the internal fan has a hairball type clog, which happened to my child's Dell Inspiron. I kept cleaning but it would overheat until I decided to take the back off and sure enough the fan would run slow or not at all because a mass of lint was stuck within the fan. Since removing all traces of it carefully with long needle-nose pliers, it has run flawless.
  22. Mark, Have you tried playing with the cleartype text settings in display?
  23. M.Evren, can you elaborate on how smooth your flight is through/with a heavy cloud deck or in-between layers??? Thanks.
  24. Hi JJ,I do exactly what you do and always research fellow simmers and user's reviews on hardware and software. As Zach said, many of the reviews are not accurate. Are the reviewers verified buyers? Their experience with building systems? Every build is so different and the software installed is also that. For example, I just finished sysprepping (an MS term for getting Windows ready for a rollout using some specialized software from MS) a Win7 Enterprise rollout of 220 Dell high-end PCs. Same hardware and same software. Same results you would think...not. Forty of the PCs from Dell had updated hardware and slightly different components. This does happen often (These 220 were part of an order for over 10,000 PCs) and is a known occurence. So my image had one driver missing and needed updating after install. No big deal as Win7 does a pretty good job of it.Now take this example of different people doing their own thing on different systems. Some know more than others. Software incompatabilities, etc....you get the idea. That's why even here we read about high-end systems performing sluggishly and low-end systems running stellarly.Final point...keep reading reviews from as many sources as possible and take everything in, sometimes with a grain of salt, but never give up and keep reading. I never stop researching. Best wishes.
  25. Just beautiful...I can't believe how far this hobby has come!
