June 13, 201015 yr I am running a Dell 720H2C with 4 gb of Ram and Vista 32. I occasional get a crash in FSX only with the PMDG 747 due to low virtual memory. I noticed that my virtual memory is set at 3 gb and not 4 gb. I hate messing with stuff I don't know about, but should I go into the virtual memory configuration and set it up to 4 gb. I heard Vista 32 is maxed out at 3 anyway - but I am not sure if this is the same issue. Please advise (keep it simple - I am no computer expert). Thank you - Paul Paul Gugliotta

Thank you - PaulPaulThis is a limitation that you see with a 32-bit OS which can only access limited amounts of Virtual Memory and Physical RAM. You could set the /3GB (Userva) switch if you are running FSX SP2/Accel/Gold and that may resolve your OOM issue although it is no universal panacea and can affect other software running on your PC. The best option would be to switch to a 64-bit OS and you are unlikely to see any further OOM issues. You can get a good explanation here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows...asked-questions and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105Windows 32 bit can only access 2GB of Virtual Memory (Virtual Address Space - VAS) (not to be confused with physical RAM) and up to 3GB with the /3GB switch. Vista 32-bit can only access 4GB of physical RAM whereas Vista 64 can access from 4Gb to 16GB to 128GB of physical RAM. Windows 7 64bit is even better and some say it is the best OS for FSX. This is a good article:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(VS.85).aspx.Now to set the 3GB switch in Vista 32 (not needed in 64-bit) FSX SP2From: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp...essage=24158581To SET the 3GB switch in 32-bit VISTA, do the following:1) Right-click 'Command Prompt -- Start > Accessories > Command Prompt2) Choose 'Run as Administrator'3) Type "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072" and press [Enter]4) Restart the computer Now 3072 may be too high for your pc so you may have to reduce it by 128 kb lots to get the correct setting (eg 3072, 2944, 2816, 2688, 2560, etc. I used to have it set to 2560 in Win XP!!My advice switch to Win 7 64-bit and many OOM issues will disappear. (or Vista as it would FOC) :( RegardsPeterH
