Best a330/a340 out there ?

Featured Replies

Hi,I would like to get myself an airbus a330 or a340 .I would like them to be "as real as it gets" if possible of course. I know there a few out there (overland, cls) but I have no idea which one is best.?Any suggestion appreciated.Vic

The fare is pretty barren in comparison to Boeings, so many people have indulged in merging or porting various ones with bits of other ones and added their own tweaks as well, but even the ISG gauges are lacking in the Airbus department, so it's never an easy task. The best looking payware one is probably the CLS model, which does also have a stab at the Airbus quirks, although not to the extent that hard core types would probably want. It will do all that 'you can't pull it up past the stall' type of thing, but if you wanted to flip through obscure pages in the depths of the cockpit's displays, you'll find many of those to be found on the real aircraft are not part of the level of simulation it aims for. That's not because CLS got things wrong, it is simply because that is the focus they were going for. Keep in mind the 'Commercial Level' bit of the CLS name, and you'll understand where they are coming from. For all that, it's a fun thing to mess around with.Systems-wise, the Wilco one has a bit more depth, but even that is not an absolutely perfect emulation of a real A340's systems. The models have come in for a bit of criticism as far as millimetric accuracy goes, but they aren't as bad as many would have you believe. So the question is, eye candy over systems, or the reverse? Decide that, and it will help you to make a choice. If you are prepared to fly in FS9, there is also the PSS one, and there is a Just Flight version of that which includes both the A330 and the A340. It's fairly complex and the models are nice, with lots of liveries, but since PSS went out of business, there ain't no FSX version unless you are prepared to do some fancy porting.Beyond that, you're going to be taking a trip to merge-land.Al
