Carenado Cessna C172N Repainting

Featured Replies

I've been doing some repaints of the Carenado C172N and have run into the same problems as others have mentioned regarding text mirroring (there's only one fuselage texture sheet) and adding text/tail-numbers etc.I noticed on the 'Prop.bmp' texture sheet (picture below) there's an area marked "Repaint Aircraft ID Area." Does anyone know how to use this feature? If I edit the area and resave as a .bmp it has no effect on the model in the sim.If I edit the area and convert to .dds the tail number now appears on the (upper and lower) wing but the propeller now appears as a solid black disc when it's spinning.Has anyone managed to get the Aircraft Repaint ID Area to work properly and, if so, how?

The Area you coloured in places the registration on the ( right ) upper wing and ( left ) under wing . For it to show up you have to place a white text in the ALPHA layer .Her are a couple of screenshots :texturetemplates.jpgtest2ev.jpgpropqg.jpgI placed these screens on the Dutch FS site but it shows that the actual text has to be placed in the alpha layer and not on the bmp - and ofcours the text colour on the bmp . Also that the red / white blocked area on texture sheet B is the position for the ( underwing ) registration but this does not show up in the sim .John

When I purchased this aircraft I was hoping to make a lot of paints ( already done quite a few for the Flight1 model ) , but was really disappointed with the texture mapping as there are too many " mirrored " surfaces . This makes it almost impossible to create many real life paint schemes and this includes any aircraft with text or logo's on the door / nose / tail ( which is quite often ) . The same applies to the underwing registration because as I showed above , this also places the registration on the upperwing too - which is fine for military aircraft - but as far as I know not many Cessna's have this ( although there are military verrsions of the C172 - they are not modelled here ) . The same applies to the C152 model ( to a lesser extent ) with another restriction on the placement / size of the registration shown on the tailboom which affects any real life paints that you want to make . Thankfully the Archer / Mooney and others are better in this respect .Well that's my rant for the day and good luck with any future paints for this model .John

I also notice that you've got the C172N and other Carenado craft open in FSRepaint... are they the FSX versions? If so, how did you get that to work?ThanksG

I bought both the FS 9 and FS X versions - the screen is taken from FS Repaint ( version ) I , which was only for FS 9 .John
