Runway Light Intensity

Featured Replies

I can't determine if there's an FSX config file that corresponds to the FS9.CFG file. The FS9.CFG file allowed me to change the intensity of runway lighting, including PAPI, VASI. The runway lights in FSX seem a little bright to me and I'd like to know if I can make the same adjustment in FSX. Thanks, MH

Hi,You need to add the following to your fsx.cfg file if its not already there. Once added, all that's left is to adjust the size to your liking.[DISPLAY]RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.9 //Runway LightsRUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.9 // VASI LightsRUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=0.9 // Approach BarsRUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.9 // Strobes

Thanks! Quick! Doesn't anyone sleep around here?I made these changes in FS9.CFG when I was running that sim, but am having trouble finding FSX.CFG. I found one file that looked like what I wanted, but the contents were in a different format than what I expected. Where is FSX.CFG anyhow? I'm now running Windows 7 too and even though I should have administrator priveleges, I think I'm stumbling over something Win 7 is putting in my way.Gary

Found it while you were reading my reply. The folks that built my system diddled with permissions and I had to play a bit. Thanks Mike.Have you ever flown the route (don't know the J number) from KSJC - over Yosemite, then over the Four Corners/Shiprock area to KDFW?Fantastic view out the left window around Four Corners!

Hi,I never had the opportunity to depart/arrive San Jose International. Maybe I'll setup a flight in FSX from KSJC to KDFW. Hope you manage to get your lighting problem solved.

Mike,Totally different subject.I've been trying to install the FSX service packs and ran into trouble. Went to MS Insider to post a question, and couldn't locate a place to do that. Then went to microsoft.com newsgroups and discovered that newsgroups have been replaced with forums. Went to the forums and can't find any threads!I'd swear I've posted a question on a MS FSX forum some time in the last two weeks! What's up?Gary

Hi Gary,I haven't been on a Microsoft forum in many years, I don't know what to tell you. I do know there are many knowledgeable people here at AVSIM that may have an answer to your question about Flight Simulator Service Packs, try asking your questions here at AVSIM.

I JUST downloaded a add-on that makes your runway lights instenser. Type this into the files library here on AVSIM: airportlightenv

Hi,I didn't like the look of FSX's lights myself so I reworked them. The files are also located here at AVSIM, the filename is: fsx_lights.zip

I hate to bring this up again but i'm not sure i got the whole fix. I edited my FSX.cfg for airport lights which are now set at .35. I've had great results with this until i updated a couple of airports with  photo scenery. Now these 2 airports have the bubble lights (as i like to call them) again. The other airports are still great so is there something i need to adjust/download/install again to fix these other 2?
