July 14, 201015 yr Commercial Member Been bugging me for a while, sorry this is probably too techy a question for FS and we cant get fired if we bust altitude minimums but.... does FS simulate temperature effects on barometric altitude? For example real world RNAV approaches cant be flown below certain temps unless corrections are made from a table. Below is taken from a FCOMWhen appropriate, make cold temperature altitude corrections by applying acorrection from an approved table to the Waypoint altitude constraints. The FMC obtains the GP angle displayed on the LEGS page from the navigation database. This GP angle is based on the standard atmosphere and is used by the FMC to calculate the VNAV path which is flown using a barometric reference. When OAT is lower than standard, true altitudes are lower than indicated altitudes. Therefore, if cold temperature altitude corrections are not made, the effective GP angle is lower than the value displayed on the LEGS page. When cold temperature altitude corrections are made, VNAV PTH operation and procedure tuning function normally, however, the airplane follows the higher of the glide path angle associated with the approach (if available) or the geometric path defined by the waypoint altitude constraints. July 28, 201015 yr Commercial Member I don't know the answer to your question, but it's something I'll have to test later. If you have time, test this and let me know:Set yourself on the ramp of KIAD and make sure your weather theme is "Clear all weather," which sets 29.92 and 15C. The altitude should be reported at 313'. Now, go back in to the weather settings and edit the weather with a user edit. Change only the temperature value, but by a larger degree (-20 increments, for example) and recheck the indication. If it shows a slightly higher indicated, then it is present in the sim. Because airport elevation is altitude above the standard data plane - MSL - and you are on the ground, 313' would be your true altitude and a change brought about by a change in temperature would be a change in indicated, and would show the sim's inclusion of the effects of temperature error.Cheers,Kyle Kyle Rodgers
