July 15, 201015 yr Can excess heat generated form a computer cause Fs9 to CTD????Yep if you're computer is overheating I believe just about anything can happen. I think a hot processor would most likely do it...RegardsAlex
July 15, 201015 yr Author Thank you, Im running fs9 on a laptop with extremely good performance, however lately my laptop has been getting very warm, and I mean warm as in almost cant touch the bottom part of it near the fan. I've recently had fs9 CTD the last few flights, and it is the first time Ive ever had fs9 crash like that in every system Ive had it installed on. So im thinking it might be the heat.Has anyone tried those cooling pads( built in fans that sit underneath the laptop powerred by usb? And if so do they disperse the heat?Thank youP.S it only heats up when running hiegh end programs such as fs9, railworks etc. when browsing internet, messing around within windows no heat at all, onloy when running progrmas. July 15, 201015 yr Hello,A cooling pad will help immediately for sure .. but it will be for a short time AFAIK if your heatsink-cooling fan are clogged by dust or other dirty things. The best is first to open your unit and make a cleaning if required and check if your cooling fan run at good speed anf if the heatsink is firmly fixed on your processor (sometime part of the fixation can be broken for some reason ... and so the heatsink plate is not in full contact with the processor !)Test .. and if no good .. try the cooling pad ...Regards.Gus.
July 15, 201015 yr as others have noted, adding a cooling pad is effectively treating a symptom rather than trying to find a cure. If your computer was working fine, and now is not, then you need to address the root cause. It could be something as simple as a part having worked loose from a socket, or dust clogging up a heat sink, so I'd check those things first. Just be sure to unplug the power if you open it up, and be gentle with any components.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
