July 23, 201015 yr READY TO PULL MY HAIR OUT!!!ARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!Ok, so I'm trying to setup a program which runs on my smaller PC (runs XP Pro x86) which can connect to my main gaming rig (runs Vista x64), from now on I'm calling the small one "small" and my main rig "main."I've gone through all the usual steps on both systems:1) Firewall off2) uac off on main3) admin accounts on both system4) simple sharing disabled on small5) Both are connected to wired router, both IP's are 192.168.1.x (ie x=5 for small and 3 for main)6)both are under WORKGROUPAnd the really fricken annoying this is: some folders and files share no problems!!! ARGGH! My printer is connected to main and it shares with small and also my wife's laptop - zero issues....I tried accessing test files from small on main - no joy. I tried the reverse - no joy. On small I get the usual annoying "you might not have permission" blah blah blah. On main "Windows cannot access...check the spelling of the name..."Any guru's out there??? How can small see random files on main but main cannot access any files on small (except printer which is connected to main)HELP?? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 23, 201015 yr What program are you trying to run? Are you just trying to share a specific folder?
July 23, 201015 yr Author Well I'm trying to get Squawkbox 4 to run on the smaller machine. But in order to do that I need to share three separate folders on my main rig...None of those three will share... I keep getting the all too familiar "access denied..."The odd thing is - I share all my audio files on the main machine, and the small rig can see the audio files, along with my wife's laptop - no issues.... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 23, 201015 yr Ok on your main rig (Vista right?) right click your shared folder, select the sharing tab then select Advanced Sharing then select Permissions, are Full Control, Change, and Read all set to Allow? Then on your XP rig map a network drive to that folder \\Vista computer name\name of the folder you should be able to access it.
July 23, 201015 yr Author Access Denied.... :( | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 23, 201015 yr Hmmm, I don't know what to say, I have pretty much the same set up as you FSX rig is Vista 64 and I run all my apps like ASE,FSINN, fscommander on my other PC which is XP. I never shut off any firewall or anything, and I never use the simple file sharing, I just share the folder set the permissions and map a network drive. Before you get the Access denied is it prompting you for a password, or do you use passwords.
July 23, 201015 yr Author No - I don't use passwords...I know I've run into this issue before.... how come networking can't be easy? Oh well.... at least I can run charts on my other PC... sigh | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
