Upgrade advice from E6300

Featured Replies

Hello guys.I currently owned a E6300 system with 8600GT. I am planning to upgrade my system (CPU + Ram + MB + Display card)I have a nice case, 4 Hard disks already, so I just need to spend on the above 4 items.Option 1: AMD 1055T + MB(suggestion?) + 4GB Ram + Nvidia 460 1GBOption 2: Intel i5 760 + P55 MB( suggestion?) + 4GB Ram + Nvidia 460 1GBOption 3: Intel i7 930 + X58 MB(Suggestion?) + 6GB Ram + Nvidia 460 IGBOption 1 will cost me the least, while Option 3 is the most expensive.**** I dont like to overclock anything, so when providing any advices, please bare in mind that I will be using stock performance. (Sorry but I just dont like overclock anything) ^^1. Is it really worth to go for Option 3? I am not a serious FSX, but would love to expose more with a good system + Graphics2. How much faster comparing Option 3 to option 2, and to Option 13. It seems to me that Nvidia has less driver issue, is that still true? I thought the 460 is a good buy?4. My current PSU is coolermaster RealPower M520, will it be enough for the new system( I hope I dont need to new PSU and it costs quite a lot to me)my FSX will run on a 24" 1920 X 1080 Monitor (VC, cockpit) + 19" 1440 X 900 (For GPS display, ATC + Instrument)Appreciate all kinds of feedback!

I have just read another thread that i7 is suggested just because of their oc. performance.so if all I could spend is 500 - 770 USD for CPU + RAM + MB + DIsplay. What do you suggest?THanks. (I Could wait for a month if there is really a price cut from Intel)

In my opinion, Option 2 would probably give you the most per dollar.

so i5 760 or i7 860? I know that they both used the same type of motherboard. Will the extra 4 threads useful for FSX?Also I will not be overclocking, is this fine?DO you have recommendation for motherboard and Ram? THanks

1. No, FSX does not utilize hyperthreading from what I have heard, but I chose to pay the extra for it. In this case I'd go for the i7-870 instead of the 860 for more speed at no additional cost. 2. That's your choice, not mine.3. For FSX, more than one video card slot is unnecessary since FSX does not benefit from SLI (unless you are using more than two monitors). Other uses for the computer may determine what other features are desired. Other than that, I shop for the current bargain. Obviously, you need a 1156 socket and a P55 or H55 chipset and a MB with 4 memory slots that utilize up to DDR3 1600 memory. RAM (2x2GB) should be at least 1333 with CAS latency=7.

Hi,The Cost for i7 860 is almost the same as i7 930, is it really worth the upgrade to i7 930 even if I am not going to o.c. it?Besides, currently I have a cooler master M520 Real Power, is this PSU fine for my new system (i7 + Nvidia 460)Thanks

Please I really need some advice.THanks

This is what I recommend:i7 870. Your not OCing so dont bother with 9304GB dual Channel ram @1600MHz CAS 6 or 7GTX 460 minimumasus or gigabyte P55 or H55 1156 socket mobostick with these. They should provide best performance without OC.

Thanks for the swift reply. Can you recommend a good 4GB dual channel kit to me?P55 is much more expensive than a H55, do I really need P55?Is my Cooler Master RealPower 520 enough for this new machine?THanks

I'm not sure memory bandwidth is that critical for FSX. In my tests downclocking from 1600 to 1033MHz (both CL9) performance was the sameOnly thing that has an impact on performance in my system is CPU overclock

Look at mushkin or corsair ram. They are probably the best and well known brands out there. Make sure you get low latency though.

Make sure you get low latency though.
again, Chris, are you sure fast RAM is that important? how do you know please? just asking cause none of my (limited) tests suggest it is

LoW latency and fast speeds are really important. The reason your computer doesn't show any change when changing freq. is because you have an extremely high latency. C9 is very high and that is bottlrnecking your system. With low latency ram such as C7 or C6 will show visible results if changing freq.

With all due respect I'm not sure that makes much sense Chris, but I could be wrong. To the best of my knowledge memory speed and latencies (and single/dual/tripple channel) combined determine the memory transfer rate, and it's the transfer rate what can be a bottleneck, not any of those settings alone. I tried CL11 @ 1600MHz and again it made no difference compared to CL9 @ 1600MHz. If my latencies were the bottleneck CL11 should have made things worse.Of course every system is different, but I would very much appreciate it if you could do some similar tests and report back. removing 2 sticks in your 980 or 1 in your 930 to force them go dual would be great, but downclocking RAM speed and/or latencies would do too.Sorry to be such a pest with all this stuff. If you don't want to that's ok, of course
