July 27, 201015 yr Aloha from Maui,I have been adding land new class scenery to many Islands around the Pacific for some time and have always run in to problems with Hawaii. Microsoft says Hawaii is in Region H which is tropical . On both FSX and FS9 when the settings for seasons are set to Winter Hawaii changes to a Winter land class. All other seasons look excellent. I have been converting my FS9 designs to FSX and have been making minor modifications to fit FSX land class. I was ready to upload some of the scenery changes when I checked the Winter Season and found the "problem". The land class I created for Lanai is much closer to the real Lanai and the rest of the Islands will also be greatly improved. If anyone knows a way to get around this problem please let me know your secret. I checked Region H in the South Pacific and there is no change when the FSX or FS9 is set to Winter. I can change the Winter textures but that will effect other locations so it probably is a bad idea. The other answer is just skip Winter when flying around Hawaii. The easy way out. That is what I recommended for FS9. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Chip
July 27, 201015 yr Hello Chip,Just make a replacement seasons bgl for that area. Just like land class files can replace the default, a new seasons bgl will display the seasons of your choice.You will have to create a raw file as a source, but you can use whatever tool you normally work with for that - just paint the area as follows:0 = Mild Winter1 = Hard Winter2 = Spring3 = Summer4 = FallI suppose that you will want to cover Hawaii in Summer, so just use the value of 3 (no matter the land class equivalent.)Once you have that source file, you will need to create an inf file. Basically, it is just like a land class file, except that the layer=Season and it is multi-source and there are 12 sources, one for every month, although you can use the very same Summer source for all the months. Here is an example of such an inf file for the Caribbean that eliminates Fall and Winter from there: [source]Type = MultisourceNumberOfSources =12[source1]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_winter.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 1[source2]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_winter.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 2[source3]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_summer.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 3[source4]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_summer.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 4[source5]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_summer.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 5[source6]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_summer.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 6[source7]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_summer.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 7[source8]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_summer.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 8[source9]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_summer.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 9[source10]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_winter.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 10[source11]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_winter.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 11[source12]Type = RawBandLayout = BSQnBands = 1ByteOrder = IntelSampleType = UINT8Layer = SeasonSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "Caribbean_seasons_winter.raw"ulyMap = 22.5ulxMap = -90nCols = 257nRows = 257xDim = 0.1171875yDim = 0.087890625Month = 12[Destination]DestFileType = BGLDestDir = "."DestBaseFileName = "FSX_Virgin_Islands_seasons"UseSourceDimensions = 0NorthLat = 18.82SouthLat = 17.57WestLong = -65.17EastLong = -64.21 I think I used 2 sources, one that is painted as Summer and another as Spring just for a bit of variety, but you can use only one source if you want. July 27, 201015 yr Seasons.bgl I think is bad for Maui. It has winter in Nov-Feb , Spring in Mar-Apr and fall in Oct in central Maui. Why MS did this I have no idea. Maybe the assumption was that all the texture tiles for region H would be summer only so it wouldn't matter. Doing a quick look at the default landclass, it uses a couple of LC, 37 which has unique region H and 29, which is region B but only summer, but other LC 10,94, and 113 are region B all-season.scott s..

I had absolutely no idea that it was possible to use just one season all year around. Yes, you are right Spring and Summer are each around six months long in Hawaii and there are slight changes for some trees. Not much though. I will try this out. I thought there was no way to do this as I've never seen any write ups like yours.Mahalo,Chip

July 27, 201015 yr You're right, but if you zero in on Hawaii, the question comes up as to why the seasons in central area of the island of Oahu, where I live, are not identical to the central area of the island of Maui, which for all intents is identical (though they still grow some sugar on Maui which they have not grown near me since about 2000).Partly I think it is a problem that is seen in many areas of the world, where the real seasons are "wet" and "dry" with the difference reflected in the amount of green foliage on vegetation.scott s..

Your system works perfectly. I just turned December into June! I almost fell out of my chair. For years I have wanted to do this for my FS9 scenery in various areas of the world but thought it was impossible. I will use your fix for FS9 and FSX. I used EZ Landclass and painted 3's into the cells that cover Lanai and created the RAW file. The simple way to cover large areas. I may leave the high altitudes alone because we get snow at 10,000 feet in the Winter.Aloha,Chip
