July 29, 201015 yr Related to this for some airliner operations is the CI or I think it stands for Customer Index. Whatever it is a feature offered on some FMC/FMS equipment that the index number sets up the performance parameters for the aircraft to reach an efficiency for fuel burn, flight time/speed, optimal cruising altitude and other factors to reach a maximum cost efficiency vs. passenger convenience compromise as determined by each airline.LLCs might choose a more efficient CI (lower number) over a full service airline where the customer trades a longer flight time for lower cost air fare.
