August 4, 201015 yr I just did an IFR flight from KCVG to KRDU using FSMeteo as my wx engine. The prevailing surface wind at KCVG (per FSMeteo) was coming from the west (260 approx) at over 10kts, and shift-Z showed that FSX was reading the same info. But the stock FSX ATC had me take off on the reciprocal runway, runway 9, rather than what I expected, i.e. runway 27.As I approached KRDU, the metar showed the wind at KRDU was 240/11 So I expected that I would be given RWY 23L or 23R for landing. But again, ATC gave me the reciprocal runway, runway 5L. And all the AI planes were taking off/landing on 5L and 5R as well. When I landed, I checked Shift-Z and FSX was reading FSMeteo correctly, i.e. 240/11.This never happened to me previously. Anyone hazard a guess as to why I'm getting (what seems to be) the wrong runway based on the prevailing surface wind?Bob
August 4, 201015 yr 2 possibilities. One is the reciprical runway is set as closed in the afcad. I do this at TNCM to prevent landings on Runway 27. The other is wind direction changed since assigned by ground. FS will not reassign the proper runway if the wind shifts. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
August 5, 201015 yr That happens to me all the time. In addition, AI aircraft will sometimes be directed to land on the reciprocal of the runway on which I've been directed to land. The best procedure in this instance is to get on the runway before them, and they will do a go-around.Using FSX weather, I have found that wind direction can be 180 degrees different on one part of an airport from what it is on another part. Using ASE weather, it appears that ATC experiences a delay in getting wind changes. Landing head-on with an AI aircraft apparently occurs because they were assigned landing instructions based on a wind direction that changed prior to my receiving landing instructions. Using ASE global weather mode may contribute to the problem. Art
