August 7, 201015 yr Hello sorry if this is the wrong place to post this topic but i was wondering if this system is good for fsx and pmdg 747,md11 and the upcoming ngx and it wont crash whenever i try to access the menu during flight.Dell xps 8100PROCESSOR: Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 860 (2.80GHz, 8MB) OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit MEMORY: 8192MB (4x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory GRAPHICS CARD: Single 1.8GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 I am also worried about the windows 7 not working with fsx deluxe and acceleration however if it works with standard fsx i can use that. If there is a better system please inform me about it too. And do dell accept a refund. Thanks in advance guys
August 7, 201015 yr It looks good, but I would have gone to a custom manufacturer such as ibuypower, or cyberpower or (if you can afford it) alienware as they use better quality components and ibuypower and cyberpower let you choose every component. However it should be fine.
August 7, 201015 yr Author
Looks good, you will be able to run them. Its a desktop, am I correct?

thanks for the reply and yes it is the desktop

August 7, 201015 yr yes W7 can run FSX + acceleration, not a problem

as a matter of fact i am considering getting an alienware m15x do you think that would be betterbut can windows 7 64 bit home premium run fsx deluxe and acceleration as i have read that it cant?specs of the alienware:PROCESSOR: Intel® Core™ i7 740QM (1.73 Ghz, 6MB, 4C) OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit GRAPHICS CARD: 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX260M graphics card MEMORY 4096MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048] but i dont think it will run as well as the xps and can the xps run pmdg at 15+ fps on the ground
August 7, 201015 yr Author yes but the alienware is 300 quid more expensive and the xps looks to be more powerfulregards
August 7, 201015 yr The alienware will have better cooling though. Plus alienware could probs be OCd.
August 7, 201015 yr Author dont really want to take the risk by overclocking. do you think the xps could make pmdg 744 with sliders 3/4 getting at least 15+ fps if not could the alienware
August 7, 201015 yr Author thinking about the specs of the xps do you reckon it will play pmdg well on reasonable settings at lets say 15fps+ coz if it can i will be happy
August 7, 201015 yr dont really want to take the risk by overclocking. do you think the xps could make pmdg 744 with sliders 3/4 getting at least 15+ fps if not could the alienwareAt 2.8GHz? I don't think so. CPU core clock speed is probably the single biggest performance factor when running MSFS. And the PMDG 744 is one of the most (if not THE most) CPU-intensive add-ons made for FSX.As to risk of overclocking...as long as you keep the core temps below 80 deg C, you're not going to hurt anything. Most of the OEM machines (but not all) have the clock speeds locked in the BIOS and can't be overclocked. AFAIK all of Alienware's machines can be. Moderate overclocks are really easy to do, especially if the machine was built with that in mind, as Alienware does.Anyway, I don't think a 2.8GHz quad is going to give you the FSX performance you seek. To get there, you'll need to be in the mid-upper 3GHz range on the CPU...and preferably with a bit more powerful GPU than a 260 as well (at ~$200 the new GTX460 looks like a good way to go). You can do that easily and cheaply with a moderate overclock, or expensively with a faster rated CPU.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
August 8, 201015 yr Just to point out, we are speaking about the dell xps and alienware m15x laptops. Not desktops.
