August 14, 201015 yr why would you use water cooling if you are not overclocking?and what do you need your new rig for? just FSX? FS9?...for 1600$ you can get a lot more than that
August 15, 201015 yr I am interested in getting some feedback on this i7-860 machine:Basic infoUltra Scout SLI Gamer i7-860 2.8 GHz, Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64 Bit,8GB DDR3, 1TB HD, Lightscribe DVDRW, Dual GTS 250 in SLI, 850W 80+ Power, Intel Extreme Board, Bluetooth*, Liquid CoolingWhile it's a nice gaming computer in general, it's wasted money for FSX. I like the i7-860, 4GB good quality memory is plenty for FSX, one better video card would outperform two GTS250's in SLI for FSX. I agree that paying for liquid cooling and not overclocking is more wasted money. Art
August 16, 201015 yr The main reason NOT to buy that rig: The graphics are completely outdated, especially considering that price!!!!For that price, you really want at least a nvidia gtx 470 or ati 5850 or better (read higher model numbers) graphic cards. And either of those cards will completely out perform an SLI gts 250, plus give you DX11 support while saving on heat, noise and enegy use. Consider too that the gts 250 is nothing more than a slightly pumped up 8800 GTS which came out over two years ago. Also water cooling is complete overkill if you are not planning on overclocking. For that price you could do MUCH better if you'd shop around. If you live in/near a decent sized city, a local computer shop could build you up a really good custom rig for that price plus give you support should anything go wrong. The i7 860 is very good but only within its nitch, i.e. less expensive mobo and ram costs compared to X58 i7s. I put together the the system in my sig for about $1100 (less the sound card, monitor and sim controllers), which included Windows 7.
