August 15, 201015 yr HiI am having so much trouble with FSX I'm about to give the puter a good kicking! When I bought the thing I lashed out and bought the Nvidia 8800GTX card and had to get the power supply upgraded to run it.FSX ran ok without to many add ons and the sliders set mid range but I kept getting "out of memory" messages or the scenery kept either locking up or turning to a undetailed fog.I just upgraded to 4GB of RAM but I'm still having the scenery issue. It runs ok for a while then clags out. FS 9 does the same thing if I change veiws quickly. My system is as follows;HP Pavilion a6120a PC Vista 32bitIntel Pentium D9254Gb RAM DDR2 NVidia 8800GTXDefrag with Ultimate defragI went back to place of purchase and all they could tell me was my proccessor is causing bottle neck and its going to cost me 250 bucks to get a better one.Any advice would be really appreciated, I'm seriously over my head here and I dont want to be wasting any more money if its not going to work.TIADannielle "And when the band your in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"
August 15, 201015 yr Yes it looks like your processor is one of the cheapest dual cores out there (and I know cheap just look at my specs). If you want to keep with socket 775 I'd say buy an E8400.If you're willing to also buy a new motherboard but want something in an affordable range look for an i3-550, they're $150 and it should overclock well if you buy a decent socket 1156 motherboard

August 16, 201015 yr Overclocking is pushing your hardware (processors in particular) beyond what the factory sets them at to gain performance.Wikipedia has a lengthier explanation of what it is exactly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OverclockingThis puts it in simpler terms so that people who can't program rockets can understand: My linkhttp://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1804This site is dedicated to info about overclocking and I've found their forums are useful: overclockers.comOverclock.net is also a good source for information: overclock.netI personally don't overclock because Dell locks their motherboards BIOS so that overclocking is disabled, but if you have a non-Dell motherboard, a decent processor, and some decent cooling, then I'd say it's a great option for squeezing out that last bit of performance. On another note I see you're using a 32bit system so you can't use more than 3.25gb of memory which explains your out of memory errors.Hope this helpsAlex
August 16, 201015 yr Author Looks like I will have to part with some more of my hard earned! Thanks againDannielle "And when the band your in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"
September 5, 201015 yr Make sure your BIOS will allow overclock, often brand name pc's are locked in that respect. An E8600 should still be very affordable, runs 3.33 GHz as far as I remember, and it's also a first time overclockers dream. There are some good tutorials out there. Got me started on overclocking :-) "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
