Traffic X (AI ADD ON)

Featured Replies

Hey, so currently I use Ultimate Traffic 2 for my AI traffic. And it is great. However I have been having some problems with adding my VA to my AI skies with call signs not working right and the amount of times it takes to add each flight. And not having my VA in my virtural skies has actually made FSX much less enjoyable for me. Also UT2 does not have military and most cargo airlines included in its package. I was thinking about getting Traffic X because I know it is simple to use and it would make putting my VA into FSX skies very easy. I used Traffic 2004 for FS9 and liked the utilities it came with like the re-paint helper and easy to use traffic editor. My questions is this. Is traffic X simular to how the previous versions have been with the easy to use traffic editors and re-paint programs? Also would it be possible to just delete the airlines I dont want traffic X to show. For example I want traffic X Fed Ex to fly but not traffic X Delta Airlines. So anyone who has Traffic X, your help is appreciated. Thanks,

I used Traffic 2005 in FSX (with appropriate updates to make it compatible). I eagerly awaited the release of Traffic X. Yes, Traffic X has a simple to use interface. Yes, Traffic X will allow you to choose which airlines you want to compile in to FSX (so you can certainly choose to keep Fed Ex and lose Delta if that is your desire). Yes, Traffic X has still a repaint tool. Yes, Traffic X makes it easy (one click) to add in new planes to use with your flight plans (so adding planes for a VA is not a problem). Yes, Traffic X imports airport updates (AFCAD updates) that you may have edited. Etc etc. Overall though, and I must be honest, whilst Traffic X does make it easy to do all of these things, I actually do think the Traffic 2005 user interface was better than Traffic X's. Whilst Traffic X is easy to use, I much preferred the Traffic 2005 interface. Yes, Traffic X does indeed do the things you need and want it to do (including the things you stipulated in your question), but it is not without a few issues here and there. The ocassional bug can be annoying, meaning that when you are doing flight plan editing etc, "save and save often" is a good moto to observe. I find AI models can be a little lacking in detail ... whilst they do look great at normal viewing distances, you don't want to look at them right up close because you can see jaggies etc. But, personally, I don't really have an issue with that. They look perfectly fine as you use the sim normally (I stress it is only when you do a very close-up view that you notice jaggies). I find the AI models to be extremely frame rate friendly and I have no issues running my airline traffic at 60% and my GA traffic at 100%. But my PC spec is up to that task, so your mileage may vary. One advantage Traffic X has is that its models are all GMax models, meaning they are DirectX 10 compatible. That is good if you want that and means that you won't have missing textures etc if you have Vista or Windows 7 and choose to use the Preview Direct X 10 option in the sim. Some of the AI models do land a bit strangely (nose high) and they stop fairly quickly on the runway. This is probably something to do with their weight settings in their .cfg files. But, again, pesonally, I don't have an issue with this. All up I find Traffic X does the job I want it to do. Other AI programs probably can do more than Traffic X, and have a few cool options. That is fine. But Traffic X does have cargo (including Fed Ex, DHL, UPS and TNT), military, and all the commercial airlines (whether it actually has every commercial airline, I don't know, but heck it has a lot). Add the military PlusPak and the civil PlusPak and you get even more planes in your skies. One thing to note is that Traffic X does not do real-world flight plans, which is OK if you don't care for such things. Although, of course, it is possible to use Traffic X to edit and add flight plans and therefore it is possible to edit or add a real-world schedule (well, close enough) to one or more planes or airlines if that is what you want. My advice would be not to be too hasty and choose Traffic X as your preferred AI program without doing some research on the other offerings. For me, I'm happy enough with Traffic X. The few issues Traffic X does have can be annoying, but they are not really show-stoppers and I am able to use the program to get the results I want.

Regards,

Freddy

If it's only to add your VA to the virtual skies you could try AI Flight Planner by D. Grovestine. It works with the well known T tools traffic sets. It's what i use to add my VA, works perfectly. aifp_v16.zip in the Avsim library.Gerrit

I have just uninstalled Traffic X. Tail slamming landings, slowing to a stop inside 200 metres, and back tracking down runways isn't my idea of decent AI airliner behaviour.
