August 22, 201015 yr Hi all,I have a fresh install of Windows 7 and FSX. My flights in FSX are nice and smooth with exception of the landing. Right at touchdown the sim freezes just for a split second then goes back to running smooth. Doesn't matter how long or how short of a time I am in the air when I come into land it happens each time right at the touchdown. System Specs:Windows 7 64bitNvidia GTX 260 (Nhancer used only for setting Anisotropic to 16x)6 Gigs of ramFSX.cfg has only had the widescreen option set to TRUE, no other tweaks done. Thanks in advance for any help you all provide. Really pleased with FSX performance but the landings are getting annoying with the momentary stutter.
August 22, 201015 yr I think it is because FSX is pausing as it tries to load the sounds for when your wheels touchdown. I have also noticed this problem occasionally and I suspect that is the reason although I'm not certain about it.You could try messing about with the touchdown sounds in your aircrafts sound.cfg.
August 22, 201015 yr I remember having this problem with fs9 and it turned out to be ground bumps. There was a way of switching that of, though I've never tried it with fsx.The last poster has a point with fsx pausing to load the touchdown sounds and effects (tire smoke, spray, etc). Some have suggested that sound related stutters can be improved by adding a sound card rather than using onboard sound, yet others say not.You may try to reduce your sound settings to see if that helps. That might give youa clue as to whether that is the problem.May simply be that your sliders are generally too high and youare simply pushing the system too much. AI traffic, ground trafifc and the amount of detail inthe scenery at the airport all casue stuttering to some degree and it is annoying on approach or touchdown. August 22, 201015 yr Author Thanks guys for the responses. Well I have a Soundblaster sound card and double checked that the sim is using it. I have all my ai sliders at 0 cause I had thought that maybe that was it also. I had thought it might be FS trying to load either the sound file or fx file on touchdown. I went into one of the aircraft cfg files and disabled the [EFFECTS] part and that might have solved the problem. With that aircraft it no longer stutters on landing. So now my question is:1. Anyone know of a way to fix this so I can use the effects?2. Anyone know of a way to disable the effects for all aircraft without having to go into each aircraft config file. Maybe move the actual smoke_fx file or something.
August 22, 201015 yr Windows 7 64 bit, 6 gigs of memory and your videocard is OK. What CPU do you have? Many of us overclock our CPUs nowadays as it makes such a difference to FSX.One thought, taking a while to find and load a sound or effects file might be due to a fragmentation issue. Defrag a couple of times or better still download a defragmenter with a disk optimizer (such as mydefrag).I'm assuming that you are running fsx with both service pack 1 and 2.IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
August 22, 201015 yr copy that ground sound file it's trying to search for into the aircrafts sound folder. Also agreed about the defrag part, even the built in windows defrag works fine. Just takes a while on big size hard drives.
August 22, 201015 yr Author Well I have an AMD 965 Black Edition overclocked to around 3.8 ghzI hope to upgrade my vid card to a GTX 460 soon.Well it seems that its not a sound flie but and FX file that it is having problems with on touchdown. Going to try and run a couple of defrags.
