August 25, 201015 yr Dear Friends,I have been using FS9 and FSX for some time now and decided to remove FS9 from my computer and all of its associated addons, all purchased and reputable. On my next start of FSX I noticed that no land terrain loads for my FSX flights. Instead I see water everywhere. It would appear the proper files are there, but instead of seeing land all around, I see water. The airports, trees, buildings are all present, as are mountains, but they are placed on water. The mountains even have water texture instead of land. I thought maybe it had to do with the scenery library priority liste but that does not seem to be the case as far as I can tell. I do not know which scenery in there is for water. I do use plenty of addons but like the ones for FS9 they are all reputable and have never given me issues. Additionally, none of them are flight or ground environment addons. Again, this happened right after uninstalling FS9. I have attached a photo of what is going on. I am not the most technically savvy when it comes to computers so I might need some help if the solution seems a bit complicated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.Seth
August 25, 201015 yr I have never heard of this happening before. In fact, the opposite is the "Normal" problem, because all of FSX is land with water put down on top. Versus FS9 which was all water and land added in.What terrain based addons do you have? This is everywhere? Europe, Australia, Russia, gasp... even Hawai'i?
August 25, 201015 yr Yes. It is everywhere!! I have tried everything I can think of including "repairing" FSX. I am nervous to have to delete and reinstall as I would have to reload all addons as well I think. Unless they will stay associated with the same directory and not need to be reloaded. Do you happen to know if that is the case? The addons that I am using are all the likes of Aerosoft airports, Wilco and PMDG aircraft, and FS2Crew. Nothing more. Thanks for your help!Seth I have never heard of this happening before. In fact, the opposite is the "Normal" problem, because all of FSX is land with water put down on top. August 26, 201015 yr Wondering when you noticed the problem and what did you install before it appeared?
August 26, 201015 yr some addon sceneries can do that in my opinion. when i installed ftx nw blue demo, my whole terrain screwed up. i had to reinstall everything. Cenk Demir Besiktas JK 1903
August 26, 201015 yr It could be a FSX Scenery layering issue or an issue with Ultimate Terrain which you state you do not use. It appears the FS9 uninstall removed some scenery textures but it should not have affected any with FSX as they reside in the FSX folder. Perhaps the scenery.cfg was corrupted somehow. I would simply do a repair starting with the FSX main install, then make sure you reinstall/repair SP1 and SP2 (or, if you have Acceleration, doing a repair with that program and that will include SP1/SP2). It's not all that difficult or as long as totally uninstalling FSX and then reinstalling. If you do have UTX installed, make sure it sits in the scenery library just above propeller objects and starting up the UTX config program and then closing it may also fix your problem. Best regards,Jim
August 26, 201015 yr If you have both sims installed, and want to remove one, you should always use the F1 Registry Tool fix utility first for both sims. Some addon may have changed a registry setting for FS9 to the FSX folder. So when you went to uninstall FS9, it deleted files out of the FSX folders as well, since many files while different use the same filenames. August 28, 201015 yr Thank you all! I have tried looking into these things and I think that some files must have been deleted, though I don't know which ones they were. I ended up removing FSX and reloading it. Fortunately all my addons are still there and the problem has been corrected. It just took some time to accomplish.
