September 5, 201015 yr HelloRecently i was practicing landing with the md11 and i had the strange problem. Whenever i tried to slowdown the fma read lo speed protection and would automatically speed up. Any help appreciatedKind Regards
September 9, 201015 yr If you take the airspeed into the danger zone, LO SPEED PROTECTION will kick in with ATS active... it is there to stop the plane from stalling...You need to manage speed more carefully than it would appear you are doing currently. The landing page on the MCDU indicates the approach and landing speeds for the landing configurations Flaps 35 or Flaps 50, and as David correctly adds, you need to be coming in at 165KIAS if you are near MLW, or maximum landing weight... Keeps the airspeed within the tape limits on the PFD and all should be fine. Don't come in too fast though, as the MD11 will bounce if you touch down, or balloon if you try and flare it early until the excess speed has bled off...Keeping it all in the window is part of the challenge and fun, remember that the MD11 lands at around 200 Tonnes... that is a lot of metal...I love it!Andrew Andrew Entwistle
