September 19, 201015 yr Hi all,Finally I decided to install FS9 on Windows 7 X64 because lately I suffered from OOM's in Windows XP x86 SP3Yesterday I did my 2nd flight under Win7 and I got an Appcrash after 2.5 hours while cruising at FL340 :Cry:This Appcrash was not an OOM (I checked) but an error in FS9.exe/dpnett.dll (DirectX)Since I have no experience at all with Win7 related to FS9 I have a few questions: Does FS9.exe needs the >2GB patch or can I use the default FS9.exe (and still utilizing all my 12 GB memory)? Should I run FS9 under 'Windows XP SP3 compatability' mode Should/can I install the DirectX 9c runtime under Win7-X64? I have installed the latest nVidia 258.96 drivers, are they OK for FS9? Anything else I should know about Please advice because I'm not a happy camper right now :mellow:My systems specs:i7-980X @ 3.3 (no overclock)Gigabyte X58A-UD3R V2XFX GTX285 1GB12GB Corsair Dominator-GT PC3-12800 DDR3 @ 1600Mhz and 1.65VEgbert Location: Vleuten, The Netherlands, 17.3dme SPL 108.40 | Simulator: FS2024 System: AMD 7800X3D - Gigabyte X670 - RTX 4090 - 64GB DDR5 - 2 x 2TB SSD - 32" 1440p Display - Windows 11 Pro

In Windows 7 I simply run the updated drivers and Nvidia automatically updates everything. It's not like the olden days when you had to completely uninstall and reinstall the drivers (although some people still do this).Anything else I should know about.A: Dpnet.dll is associated with DirectX as you state and also Microsoft DirectPlay. You should have the latest version as my system states it was last modified on 7/13/2009. The dll may be conflicting with a bad install of your video card drivers though. A reinstall of your video card drivers might fix this problem. I would also rename your fs9.cfg to fs9.old, restart fs9 and let the sim rebuild the configuration. A lot of times this fixes many crashes/problems as sometimes the configuration gets corrupted or may not have identified your video card properly. Best regards,Jim
September 23, 201015 yr Author Hi,Thanks for your replies.I will update directX11 if a newer version is available.I did a few more flights and I have pretty low frame rates compared to WinXP.In Win7 they heavily fluctuate between 18-30 (high altitude) where in WinXP they never would go below 30 fps, neither on ground nor altitude (locked 30)Since it is a clean install of OS and FS2004 I don't have a clue why I have such huge issues.EgbertP.S. I do have F9.1 patch installed Location: Vleuten, The Netherlands, 17.3dme SPL 108.40 | Simulator: FS2024 System: AMD 7800X3D - Gigabyte X670 - RTX 4090 - 64GB DDR5 - 2 x 2TB SSD - 32" 1440p Display - Windows 11 Pro

I do have F9.1 patch installedDid you defrag your hard drives after installing the system OS AND whenever you installed FSX and any addon? These programs are scattered all over your hard drive when you first install them and you need to defrag to get the files back into order. You should also run a registry/drive cleaner periodically too as useless registry entires could slow down your system too.DX11 will only work on DX11 compliant video cards AND only if the program was developed for DX11. FS9 was not developed for DX11 so don't expect anything better with your video card and FS9 just because you have DX11 installed. There are many games being developed for DX11 so not all is lost. I'm pretty sure Microsoft Flight will be programmed for DX11 compliant video cards as that was one of the sore spots when they developed FSX and didn't do much programming for DX10 compliant video cards.Best regards,Jim
