API Macros

Featured Replies

I have downloaded several API Macros from the website, and have dowloaded the program "Airport".Can anyone help me on how to use the API macros to put new items and new airports into FS2004?

I had a go at Airport (2.6 I think) back in the FS2002 days and did in fact manage to put scenery in the sim, however later on Derek Leung released Flight Simulator Scenery Creator which was a lot more intuitive and useful in my opinion. FSSC will place your .api macros, you place all of your .api's into a folder and then set up your directory paths in the FSSC options. You'll then be able to right click on the map screen and select Add object > 3D object > Macro. Airport was basically the same way with setting up paths as I recall, I can't remember exactly how macros were placed. Here's a link to FSSC:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=&Name=&FileName=&Author=Derek+Leung&CatID=rootHere's a tutorial by Frank Betts that explains how to do initial setup of a new airport in FSSC including placing a top-down screenshot or aerial photo onto the map making scenery placement much easier:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=&Name=&FileName=scenery_tutorial.zip&Author=&CatID=rootEDIT:Also here's a link to the FS Scenery Creator support forum right here at Avsim:http://forum.avsim.net/forum/175-fs-scenery-creator/All that said, Airport, FSSC, and .api's are old news, FS2002 stuff really. If I were you I'd download the latest version of Airport Design Editor (ADE9X). This is free cutting edge software designed by the best of the best and works in FSX too. I don't know if there's any support for .api macros, I rather doubt it, but there are literally thousands of Gmax objects available in premade object libraries that you can place in the sim. Go here to decifer which version you need to download:http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/EDIT:It appears this is the latest version of ADE9X:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=&Name=&FileName=ade_setup_full_147.zip&Author=&CatID=rootHave fun,Jim

And you can use ModelConverterX to convert some of those API files into FS2004 or FSX MDL files, and then (if desired) add them to a library using Library Creator. Then you can add them directly with ADE9X or a program like Instant Scenery.Hope this helps,

Thanks for the very informative information guys.I will try to follow though and see what I can accomplish. These API's are of various military items;most relate to Vietnam.Trying to build some LZ's and FS bases to use so I can create Vietnam 1965-1970.Thanks again.Harmon
