October 4, 201015 yr I run Windows 7 64-bit and am about to buy my first joystick.I'm considering the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (good beginner's stick, by all accounts) and the Saitek Cyborg X stick.I've read numerous posts which conflict on whether these sticks will run in Windows 7.As they both have USB connectivity, some state that W7 recognises them immediately, so no problem. Others report recognition problems. So I'm a bit confused!I looked at the Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center for the Saitek and it lists a whole string of Saitek hardware as compatible but not the Cyborg X.The other slightly confusing thing is that, if they are USB sticks - which should be recognised - what is the purpose of the 64-bit drivers/software on both the Logitech and Saitek web sites?TIA
October 4, 201015 yr Special drivers for peripheral hardware on 64-bit OS boxes are necessary to integrate 32-bit devices and prevent USB conflicts. You will be amazed at how many BSOD's can be prevented by cleaning up your drivers. IMHO.

I was also forgetting that additional software is required to configure hardware like the joystick.
October 4, 201015 yr I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro with Win7 64B and do not have any issues. The JS installed fine and you can download the latest software from the Logitech website.

November 12, 201015 yr +1 here..same stick and OS. I did NOT bother to install the Logitech software as my new Extreme 3d Pro works fine as is in FS2004 under Windows 7 64-bit.I upgraded from Logitech Attack 3 to the Extreme 3D Pro for the rotating handle feature..but I miss my right-side located buttons from the Attack 3 stick.
November 18, 201015 yr 99,9% of the time there won't be any problem. It's all standard USB HID device.
