  1. Thanks, Captain. I'll certainly be having a look at that.
  2. Wingz, Chris: thank you. I guess I can also increase the air traffic density setting to generate a bit more traffic.
  3. Chris, Ron and Hans: many thanks for the replies. I will need to fire up FS9 and examine my surroundings a bit more closely! To explain: I was looking at the Settings-Traffic and the options under Air Traffic and Aircraft Labels. What I presume was an AI aircraft appears as, in my case, a red text description, for example, in the sky 'flying' in the airspace. I have never seen an actual aircraft. I'm not sure if I've got any AI aircraft in the default Aircraft folder. I've been through all the aircraft in the 'Create a Flight' dialog and none appears to be identified as AI.
  4. Probably a dumb question but how do I see AI aircraft in FS9? I can see the text detailing make/model etc but I don't see an actual aircraft. Do I need a separate add-on for AI aircraft?
  5. Taipan - thanks, I noticed the Su-25t was already installed with DCS World.
  6. Auduns: thanks for the clarification. I misunderstood that it was a pre-paid beta.
  7. I downloaded the various files (DCS World and P-51). When I tried to start the P-51 I got a 'Product Activation' screen - is this required for a beta? Anyway after pressing 'Escape' a few times I managed to get to a map screen but that's as far as I got. I've no idea how to get to a P-51 on a runway ready for a flight. Have I missed a 'Help' option somewhere?
  8. Gus: once again you ride in on a rescue mission! There's plenty there to read which I will get on to.Thanks again for your help.
  9. Andy: I gathered that! Is there anywhere a comprehensive explanation of what the various settings in FS9 actually do?Ideally one should just be able to install a plane and fly it. But I am finding that, as I install planes, the "readme.txt"s usually require some tinkering with one .cfg file or another. Again I haven't seen a comprehensive explanation of what the various entries in the .cfg files actually do. I have no desire to design aircraft but I'm sure knowing a bit more about these settings would be helpful.
  10. Gus:yes, very interesting. Thanks. Andy: yes, i had thought of turning reflections off for the B-58. So, I wonder what 'Global Aircraft Quality' does and what does it affect? True, but this model seems hyper shiny!
  11. Andy: the one which seems hyper-reflective is the freeware B-58 Hustler (by Lucariny?).I looked at the Display/Aircraft settings. At the moment I have the setting on Ultra High for Global Aircraft Quality. If I uncheck 'Reflections' it resets the Global Aircraft Quality to Medium Low (but gets rid of the reflection.) So I'm not sure what I'm sacrificing in the way of Aircraft Quality to get rid of excess reflectivity.
  12. I think that, given my level of ignorance re FS9 design, the first option is the one I'll investigate.Thanks. Andy: not sure, I'll have to check it and, if so, I'll switch it off to assess the effect.Thanks.
  13. I've downloaded some aircraft and they have an unrealistically shiny, reflective surface texture. I know nothing about how to modify textures or anything else technical in FS9 design - but is there a straightforward modification I can make to an aircraft's file(s) to reduce this reflective texture?TIA
  14. Well, all the above seems a bit academic. I installed as per the instructions. Can select a Crusader variant to fly - when I hit 'Fly Now' I get the dreaded 'Microsoft FlightSimulator has stopped responding' message. Pity - this aircraft comes highly recommended :-(
  15. Just downloaded this and found that there are no sounds included.(1) are there any recommended sounds which can be used and, if so, where can I find them?(2) assuming there are, should they be installed in the aircraft's 'sound' sub-folder or in the FS9 'sound' sub-folder?(3) are any entries required in any of the .cfg files to 'point' to the sounds?TIA
  16. No problems here - Win 7 Pro 64 bit.FS2004 fires up fine.
  17. Gus: thanks. Have downloaded them - just need to install them now.
  18. I posted earlier about the Aeroplane Heaven Grumman Panther throwing up an incompatible software message, and I thought 'd fixed it. However it returned today - having selected the aircraft and hit 'Fly Now' the full message is: "FS9 has detected potentially incompatible software: GAUGES\Cfo_Gauges.GAU"If I hit 'Yes' to load the software, FS9 crashes ( i.e. stops responding ), if I hit 'No' to disable the software, FS9 crashes. This is supposed to be the FS2004 version. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?TIA
  19. Gus: OK, I can fly the Cougar now - thanks. However I am finding that it has a tendency to go into a steep climb after takeoff and trimming is quite difficult. If I trim down to compensate for the climb it tends to dive!!! Also, there are sections in your modified aircraft.cfg which don't appear in the default aircraft.cfg (and vice versa.) Should the sections in the default aircraft.cfg (which don't appear in the modified aircraft.cfg) be added to the modified aircraft.cfg?
  20. Gus: I have downloaded the Panther mods and will install these and your Cougar mods. Thanks
  21. Solved this problem using the bugfix.zip from Paolo Pizzato i.e. adding [Old Modules] entry to fs9.cfg Gus: definitely downloaded the FS9 Panther - see the solution in my post. The Cougar_Addi.zip ... will this solve the problem of the 'Microsoft Simulator has stopped working' message i.e. will it make the Cougar flyable in FS9?Thanks
  22. I posted previously that I CTD when I tried to fly the Grumman Cougar (f9f.zip - Ito's model) from the AVSIM library. I have reinstalled, I can select the aircraft but when I 'Fly Now' the 'Microsoft Simulator has stopped working' message appears. Has anyone successfully installed and flown this model?I also installed the Aeroplane Heaven Panther. When I try to fly this I get a message 'FS9 has detected potentially incompatible software GAUGES\Cpo xxx' (can't remember the exact gauge file name). I presume this is because the Panther was designed for FS2002. Is there a way around this to get it to fly in FS9?TIA
  23. Can anyone suggest possible causes for this so I can investigate and try and find s solution?TIA
  24. I downloaded this from the AVSIM library and installed it in line with the included instructions. I can select the different variants of the aircraft - so that's installed correctly. I can select a flight - say the default Tacoma. But when I hit 'Fly Now' I receive a message saying 'Microsoft Simulator has stopped working'. (Using Windows 78 Pro 64 bit.)Has anybody else had this issue with this aircraft?TIA
